Do you need to get a check ride on a new aircraft? As an aviation insurance broker, I often get questions about check rides and insurance requirements for general aviation pilots in Canada. To help clarify: Each aviation insurance company, such as Allianz Global or Global Aerospace, has its own standards when it comes to check rides. For instance: Allianz Global may require specific check ride forms to be completed by a check pilot or instructor. Global Aerospace might only need a letter of proficiency from the instructor. Others may be satisfied with a logbook entry signed by the instructor. The key takeaway? These are not typically formal Transport Canada check rides, which are specific to operations requiring an Air Operating Certificate (e.g., 702 or 703). Instead, they simply need to meet the standards set by the flight school or instructor conducting the ride. If the insurer has a specific form or guideline, it’s important to follow those instructions to ensure compliance. This variability emphasizes the importance of understanding the unique requirements of each insurer. Feel free to reach out if you have questions about navigating aviation insurance! #aviation #aviationinsurance #generaviation #checkrides

Check your Insurance Policy with the change of season to make sure everything is still up to speed! #insurance #aviation #pilots #liability
Ready for Autumn? 🍃 🌪 In the autumn, many pilots take advantage of every good day for VFR flights on their home base airfield. 🛩 The use of their aircraft might be less than during the summer, due to the decreasing day-light period. Sometimes they are relocating their aircraft to another airfield with more favorable weather. 🌞 A season change is always a good time to check your Aviation Insurance. ❗ More than often we get last-minute requests for the following amendments: ✴ Adding another pilot to the insurance policy (temporary), to conduct a ferry-flight or for a Flight Instructor making a check or training flight with the aircraft owner. ✴ Adding a new pilot (permanently) on the policy to fly the aircraft. ✴ Renting out your aircraft to other pilots: Make sure your Insurance policy is equipped for rental purposes, the pilots meet the minimum flight requirements and they possess the right licenses. ✴ Renting out your aircraft to a flight school or third party. Make sure your Insurance policy is equipped for rental purposes, the other party should be added on both policy as well as on the Insurance certificate as co-insured. Also the same rules should apply for the pilots requirements. ✴ Region cover: Is the region on your Insurance still ok? When flying cross-country (abroad) make sure this country is included/accepted on your Insurance policy as well as the countries you have to pass to fly to that final destination. Also make sure you have the right liability limit when flying on a foreign airfield for a longer period of time. All these requests take some time to get organized and approved by the Insurers and might increase your premium. From pilots we need Names, Birthdays as well as their complete flight history (Licences, Total Time, Ratings, Claims last 5 years) The more complete this information is delivered to us, the faster we can arrange it for you! 📄 Have a great "flying" Autumn! 😊 #insurance #changestopolicy #pilotinformation #changes #amendments #liability #hull #aviation #womeninaviation

Aviation insurance, also known as aircraft insurance, protects against risks associated with the operation of aircraft. It covers a wide range of risks, including: Physical damage: Covers damage to the aircraft, its engines, parts, and equipment, while in storage, transit, or in use Liability: Covers legal liability for passenger injuries, environmental damage, and third-party damage caused by aircraft accidents Property damage: Covers damage to airports, hangars, and other land-based property Loss of cargo: Covers loss of cargo Aviation insurance policies are different from other transportation insurance policies and use aviation-specific terminology, limits, and clauses. Aviation insurance can be purchased for a variety of aircraft, including standard, experimental, vintage, and seaplanes. In addition to aircraft insurance, most pilots and airlines also carry aviation accident insurance to cover injury or death. #snsinstitution #snsdesignthinker #designthinking

🌍 From Skepticism to Safety: The Evolution of Aviation Insurance ✈️ Did You Know? John Alcock and Arthur Whitten Brown made history in 1919 by completing the first non-stop transatlantic flight! Their journey aboard a modified Vickers Vimy bomber, from Newfoundland to Ireland, was not just a remarkable feat of aviation but also a pivotal moment that paved the way for future advancements in air travel and aviation insurance. Back in the early 20th century, aviation was met with skepticism. Insurers considered flights to be risky ventures. Today aviation is recognized as the safest mode of transportation, thanks to rigorous safety protocols and innovations. Their flight not only demonstrated the potential of air travel but also highlighted the need for specialized aviation insurance to cover unique risks associated with flying. The legacy of their achievement continues to influence the aviation industry, showcasing how far we've come in ensuring safety and reliability.
