🆕 Nature restoration law! The new law aims to put measures in place to restore at least 20% of the EU’s land and sea areas by 2030, and all ecosystems in need of restoration by 2050. It also aims to mitigate climate change and the effects of natural disasters. The regulation will now be published in the EU’s Official Journal and enter into force. It will become directly applicable in all member states. By 2033, the Commission will review the application of the regulation and its impacts on the agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, as well as its wider socio-economic effects. ➡ https://lnkd.in/eXRqEmS5 #WetlandsConservation #WetlandsMatter

Compliance with Australian laws is crucial for international vessels operating in Australian waters. The Australian Biofouling Management Requirements (ABFMR) help prevent the spread of invasive aquatic marine species, requiring vessels to provide detailed biofouling management practices before arrival. We follow the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) 2015 Anti-Fouling and In-Water Cleaning Guidelines for best practices in maintenance, removal and disposal of biofouling. Before any work begins, we address concerns from governing bodies, ensuring procedures align with state biosecurity enforcement and the Australian Border Force (ABF) to maintain operational integrity and environmental stewardship. #KROV #MarineAssetSpecialists #HullCleaning #HullInspection #CivilMarineWorks #OPLInPortOperations #DiverServices #CommercialDiving #Australia #NewZealand

Human-wildlife conflict poses a significant threat to our oceans and marine life. At SANCCOB, we are dedicated to addressing these challenges with urgency and unwavering commitment. From entangled penguins to polluted waters, the human impact on marine ecosystems is profound. But together, we can make a difference. You can help protect our oceans and their inhabitants by contributing and sharing updates on our legal action against the Office of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries, and the Environment. We are advocating for biologically significant closures in reducing the competition for prey ( Anchovies & Sardines) between African penguins and the commercial purse-seine fisheries. This competition is a major factor in the rapid decline of African penguin populations, potentially leading to their extinction in the wild by 2035. Let's unite for a sustainable ocean. #Conservation #MarineLife #SANCCOB

In case you don't follow my Simplify Ballast page (and seriously, we've talked about this...), I don't want you to miss the fact that #BWMS training is both a thing and very important. The regulators are getting smart about #ballast. Shouldn't you? #RUReady? #ballastwater #compliance #train4compliance
Somebody just turned on a light switch somewhere... and it's not insects that are scattering, it's my phone that's ringing. #ballast water management #training is suddenly a very hot topic, and we have the proven solution already delivered to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, U.S. Coast Guard, and others. The 2025 schedule is starting to take shape and there is still one or two spots remaining in 2024. Don't wait to schedule your training! The Paris MoU on Port State Control and Tokyo MOU have announced a Concentrated Inspection Campaign (#CIC) in 2025 on #BWMS. Don't get caught with your tanks full... 😉 If you want to know more about your obligations under the Convention, whether you are a Flag Administration, a Recognized Organization, or a ship owner navigating the complex regulatory landscape, reach out and schedule a time to talk. #RUReady?

#CDHAlert | In today's alert, Alistair Young, Alecia Pienaar, and Anneri du Preez discuss how the revised Draft Regulations for Implementing and Enforcing Priority Air Quality Management Plans will impact reclamation operations. On 17 May 2024, the Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment published the proposed Regulations for Implementing and Enforcing Priority Area Air Quality Management Plans (2024 Draft Regulations) for comment. Underpinned by a litigious past, the 2024 Draft Regulations are long overdue and are set to impact private sector players whose operations are located within declared priority air quality areas. Comments on the 2024 Draft Regulations are due on or before 18 June 2024. Click here to read more - https://bit.ly/3R4ZaT3 #environmentallaw #airquality #2024draftregulations

Friday Facts 💡 Did you know that forest certification ensures our forests are well-managed, legally harvested, and beneficial for the environment, society, and economy? Certification programs like PEFC International and FSC Australia and New Zealand hold forest managers accountable to globally recognised standards, protecting our precious natural resources. In Australia, 20.4 million hectares of forests were certified under the Responsible Wood Certification Scheme and 1.2 million hectares under the Forest Stewardship Council by June 2023. An estimated 1.06 million hectares were certified under both! Data: Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry

People get very upset when I talk about this because their backgrounds have trained them to reject complex, multivariable responses to things like extreme urban heat, especially in favor of tech and innovation, but the truth is that we will never be able to build grids that will keep up with the heat demands of the future (especially if the primary users will be people who cannot afford to leave their increasingly uninhabitable homes). So we need to find ways to alleviate the stress on whatever grids we can build, reimagine urban environments to be less physically miserable, and do so in ways that are long lasting and cost effective.
Trees are vital urban infrastructure, which play a key role in reducing urban heat island effects and offer countless benefits to our cities. 🌳🏙 Discover how trees enhance our urban environments. via US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) North Carolina State University U.S. Forest Service - International Institute of Tropical Forestry
