🌍🍽️ On #WorldFoodSafetyDay, DQS, a leading provider of food safety and quality solutions, raises awareness about a critical challenge affecting the world: ensuring access to safe and healthy food for all. 📊 The World Health Organization estimates a staggering 600 million illnesses and 420,000 deaths annually due to unsafe food, with a disproportionate impact on children in developing countries. The global fight for safe food has a long history, but underdeveloped regions face unique challenges. Limited access to refrigeration can lead to spoilage and contamination, with traditional preservation methods proving less effective. Ensuring hygiene and best practices in informal markets, vital community hubs, requires innovative solutions. Additionally, maintaining consistent cold chain logistics across vast distances can be difficult due to fragile infrastructure. Food safety is more than just avoiding a passing stomach ache. It's about protecting the health of individuals, families, and communities. This means that the responsibility for food safety falls on everyone because food involves everyone. Farmers need to implement proper pre-harvest and post-harvest handling practices to minimise contamination risks. Producers require rigorous hygiene protocols and adherence to best practices during processing. Maintaining proper storage temperatures and implementing effective transportation methods throughout the supply chain is crucial for distributors. Retailers play a vital role by implementing safe food handling practices and educating consumers on proper storage and preparation techniques. Finally, understanding safe food storage and preparation techniques at home is essential for everyone to prevent foodborne illnesses. 🤝🌍 DQS is committed to working with stakeholders across Africa to address these challenges. We partner with organisations to implement industry-leading hygiene practices throughout the food chain. We invest in education by providing training programmes for farmers, producers, and retailers on safe food handling. We can be the change. 💪 Join DQS in nurturing a world where every bite is a confident one, and where we can secure healthy plates for every table. 🍽️🍏

[World Food Safety Day 2024] Food Standards Save Lives June 7th is a day set aside by the United Nations as World Food Safety Day. Food safety involves practices and protocols put in place to ensure #food products remain free from harmful contaminants and diseases, from the farm to the consumer’s table. This year’s theme focuses on measures to prevent food-borne illnesses and ensure overall food safety. Food safety requires all parties involved in food production and supply. From farmers to manufacturers, retailers to consumers, everyone has a role to play in maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety. When food is contaminated, it can lead to severe #health issues and can affect millions of people. It is estimated that unsafe food causes 600 million cases of foodborne diseases and 420,000 deaths annually. This is why it is important to stick to food safety practices, not just as a necessity but also as a strong commitment to public health. This day is also used to recognize and commend people who work tirelessly to ensure food is safe. These people include food producers, regulatory bodies, and food service providers. Their relentless efforts and dedication help in curbing food-borne #diseases and ensure that we eat not just what is safe, but also nutritious. Everybody has a role to play in this practice, including #consumers practising proper hygiene, cooking, and food storage at home. It is also important to create awareness and education on this topic, so people can make informed decisions about the food they consume. By following food safety standards and promoting best practices, we can protect our health and the people around us. We can also support food safety systems and generally work towards a healthy future for everyone. Safe food today means a healthier tomorrow! I Contracted Food Poison on #WorldFoodSafetyDay World Food Safety Day was set up to draw attention and enhance collaboration in detecting, preventing and managing risks due to consumption of contaminated and unwholesome foods all around the world. The goal is to contribute to global access to safe foods from farm to fork while also protecting the planet. That same day, on the busy street of Lagos somewhere around Isaac John GRA, Ikeja our team stopped to fill our insatiable appetite for nutritious food not knowing we were eating contaminated foods. The rest of the story wasn't anything to write home about. This is a very well-known local food parlour visited by many working in banks, offices and hospitality within the area. The need to ensure we are served nutritious and wholesome foods is a fundamental right that must not be denied anybody. Food Poisoning is caused by infectious microbes and their toxins in poorly prepared foods, symptoms often include vomiting, diarrhoea, sore throat, stomach upset and in cases of severe poisoning hospitalization. A Government Health and Sanitation team should be set up to define food safety standards in all bukaterias. To the agribusiness professionals, there is an opportunity for traceability solutions from farms to the bukas, restaurants and food shops. With this one can quickly identify the point of deviation or breach in the food supply chain. I come in peace
