IMI Critical Engineering has announced a record year for orders throughout the #hydrogen value chain in 2023. Last year saw the manufacturer double its 2022 orders to deliver £15 million worth of projects to support the generation of hydrogen. Key milestones included a successful field test of the company’s IMI PEM #electrolyser at its 16,000m²  facility in Sardinia in May 2023.   The field test was quickly followed by several electrolyser installations at leading global research organisations throughout the summer and autumn of 2023. These included the IAAPS research facility at the University of Bath and the University of Sheffield’s Sustainable Aviation Fuels Innovation Centre, with the latter successfully producing its first on-site #greenhydrogen in January 2024.   Hydrogen solutions will remain a core focus for the company throughout 2024 and beyond, as it looks to expand its hydrogen sector team and the number of electrolyser installations across the world.

Currently around 99% of the global hydrogen production is based on non-renewable, carbon containing feedstocks. Hydrogen with a lower carbon footprint is referred to as "Blue Hydrogen," typically produced from conventional syngas processes using non-renewable feedstocks, with integrated systems for CO2 capture. The main CO2 capture methods for conventional hydrogen production facilities using SMR, ATR, or POX technologies are outlined in Options 1, 2, and 3. It is important to highlight that there is no universal solution that works for every situation. I would like to summarize my experience at the International Standard Summit 2024 in #Bengaluru, organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry Institute of Quality. As I mentioned in my presentation, #India is not only developing a #hydrogen strategy but specifically focusing on pure #greenHydrogen. Since green hydrogen requires #renewableEnergy, India has also implemented a renewable energy strategy focusing on #solar and #wind to enable green hydrogen production. Additionally, India is providing special real estate close to infrastructure, including harbors, for potential export purposes. To meet the massive renewable energy requirements, India has opened both shores for the development of #offshore wind, for example. This demonstrates that there are not only corresponding strategies behind these initiatives but also a holistic and industry-enabling concept. Essentially, investors only need the project, as the framework, including sites, is already taken care of. This positions India strategically on a global scale as potential supplier for #greenEnergy. Listening to the other presentations, it became clear that the cross-functional topic is market access and achieving the highest degree of #transparency through #certification for #PtX equipment as well as for green hydrogen. As I said, green hydrogen without certification turns into grey hydrogen immediately. It is a good thing that TÜV SÜD provides the necessary tools through certification schemes like #CMS70. Furthermore, we guide our clients and partners through the complexities of international and regional certification requirements. Last week, Sales Manager Laurence Mitchell and Senior Design Engineer Carlos Rosa attended PCIM Exhibition in Germany. The exhibition is fixated on the discussion and promotion of the power electronics and renewable energy sector. In an area of the industry where discussion of product and technological development is at its peak, the exhibition provided a unique opportunity for the Carlos and Laurence to gain valuable insight into where the innovation will take the world next. They also had a fantastic opportunity to have meetings with long-standing clients, as well as new customers whom have entrusted API Capacitors with their power generation application needs. The maintenance of client relationships is crucial to us as a company and so Laurence and Carlos relished in the opportunity to convey this to our customers, as well as better understanding how we can assist them further as we look to the future. Understanding where the sector is going next is crucial to API Capacitors in order to ensure that we remain up to date and in line with our industry colleagues.
