Train Pod @ one-north is repurposing a decommissioned SMRT Corporation Ltd train carriage into a co-living hotel, a project developed by Tiny Pod with support from JTC Corporation. Scheduled to launch this September at a carpark next to Block 69 Ayer Rajah Crescent, the hotel will offer fully furnished private rooms with communal spaces and smart lock systems. Cities banning rental e-scooters often cite #parking issues as a key challenge, with geofencing and docking stations offering limited solutions. Krakow in Poland took a different route by adopting a rental solution for #escooter parking. Cities Today's Christopher Carey spoke with Lukasz Franek, Director of the Krakow Transport Authority, about this novel approach towards embracing #micromobility, the response from operators, and the positive results he has seen. “Now after being in place for one year, I think it’s been very successful. 🤩 It's simple - More parking 🅿️ and light regulation 👮🏻 could lead to more usage of shared micro mobility 🛴🚲! As always, it’s my personal opinion. Please add your thoughts 💭 in the comment section below 👇. —— Context on impact of the parking 🅿️ situation on usage based on data from London: https://lnkd.in/dkGKHpzi 👉 Steer and Centre for London are indicating that 30.000 📈 shared bike trips are missed every day in London 🇬🇧 due to not enough parking space. 👉 Interestingly 💡, the London bike sharing scheme has around 10 trips per year, which equals to around 30.000 rides a day. Imagine where it could be with proper parking. 👉 Shared bike parking should be simple & streamline, e.g., by heaving sufficient density of parking bays, and consistent parking rules 📋. 👉 Good to see that cities 🌆 like Düsseldorf, Berlin, Milan 🇮🇹, Lisbon 🇵🇹 and many more continuously work on improving the parking situation. —— Context on the impact of regulation level for local sharing schemes by Deloitte and Bolt: https://lnkd.in/diuC3cPE 👉 A high level of regulations and tenders could come with higher costs 💰 for city administrators, as tenders need to be prepared and implementation needs to be managed. 👉 More regulation is increasing the usage prices 💸 and is decreasing the adoption rate 📉 of micro mobility services. 👉 Light and medium regulation that come with lower costs and higher flexibility could be enough to reach the city targets ✅. 👉 Control measures like parking rules 🅿️, data sharing, technology requirements, fleet caps, etc. could be implemented with every level of regulation. 👉 Based on my experience, tenders are too often used to hand off the responsibility for shared mobility services to someone else. This is the wrong approach, real ownership needs to be there do make shared mobility schemes a success. 👉 A no-brainer: More operators and more scooters lead to a higher adoption rate and lower prices 🤑. —— Here are some personal recommendations based on my experience: 1️⃣) Take ownership 💪 for the success of implementing and operating shared micro mobility schemes - don’t hand if off blindly to 3rd party vendors and realise 5 years later that it failed. 2️⃣) Having a dedicated team 🌟 or dedicated entity with a super passionate team could help to execute without the legacy and old habits. 3️⃣) Follow an ecosystem 🤳🏻 approach where shared micro mobility is fully integrated in the local mobility ecosystem (e.g., public transport). 4️⃣) Don’t copy and paste from others: The mobility situation in each market is hyper local. Know the local customer demands and expectations and tailor the offering in line with that. Always monitor and adjust 🔄 to meet user & market needs. 5️⃣) Follow through and ask for feedback later: Citizens will first complain about less parking infrastructure, etc. but thank you later, when they experience the benefits of the changes ♻️. #micromobility #regulation #city

After another excellent year at Retail Destination Live, here's our round-up of the top 5 takeaways for you; 1. Environmental Enhancements Offline spaces present a unique advantage through the provision of a tangible, physical experience. This encompasses features like water installations, lush green landscapes, architectural splendour, and educational facilities, fostering both individual and communal learning. 2. Venturing beyond conventional mixed-used destinations To enhance the appeal of retail and leisure destinations, it’s crucial to broaden their horizons beyond traditional ‘mixed-use’ concepts. This entails enhancing the destination by offering functional services that people need rather than experiences they desire. 3. ASB is sadly not going away! The cost of ASB preventative measures has surged to £3.3 billion, doubling with numbers going in the wrong direction as a result of societal pressures. Centres need a robust code of conduct that is understood by security, and they need to be empowered and confident in enforcing it. 4. Don’t try to compete with online shopping Rather than competing with the internet, there is an opportunity for destinations to integrate its benefits into our physical spaces. One strategy is to facilitate convenient returns from online purchases to our centres, thereby increasing footfall, encouraging longer dwell times and increased spending when consumers visit for return purposes. 5. How can destinations improve? The primary areas identified for improvement are the prevalence of empty stores and the overall environment/atmosphere within the centre, customer service was surprisingly not high on the list.
