With interstate closures, out-of-service rail lines and nearly 600 roads closed or impassable in the wake of Hurricane Helene, moving goods into and out of affected regions remains challenging. While the initial shock was severe — with the volume of shipments declining as much as 34% in Florida and Georgia on a week-over-week basis — we're starting to see recovery. FourKites data shows that shipments destined for Florida, Georgia and South Carolina plummeted more than 25% on a week-over-week basis in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Helene. By Tuesday, September 29, shipment volumes had largely recovered for the majority of states in the storm's path — with Florida seeing a 20% week-over-week increase. FourKites will continue to track the impact of tropical storms and hurricanes on global supply chain operations — make sure to follow and stay tuned for further updates. #data #HurricaneHelene #Florida #supplychain

Key freight markets in Florida are expected to experience significant disruptions as Hurricane Milton is forecasted to hit the state's Gulf coast Wednesday night. Large cities within the storm's path are Tampa and Orlando, both in the top 25 largest metropolitan areas in the U.S. As is the case before a hurricane, truckload demand has spiked as a probable function of shippers' trying to make a last-second push to get freight out of the region. However, also typical in this scenario, capacity has reportedly tightened as many carriers have turned away loads in the days leading up to the storm. Just like Hurricane Helene's impacts to Florida's Big Bend region as well as to western North Carolina, Milton threatens a similar fate to central and southern Florida's truckload market as residual damage to infrastructure and immediate demand to move emergency aid are increasingly likely in the storm's aftermath. Commerce Express Inc. will monitor the situation closely and provide relevant updates to customers as it relates to their freight needs. . . . #hurricane #milton #severeweather #trucking #truckload #FTL #LTL #logistics #logisticscompany #CommerceExpressInc

🌪️ Freight Shipping in Hurricane Season: Supporting Our Communities 🚚 Hurricane Helene reminded us of the devastating impact hurricanes can have—displacing families, damaging homes, and disrupting local economies. Our hearts go out to all those affected, and we stand in solidarity with them as they rebuild. Now, as we prepare for Hurricane Milton, it’s important to remember the challenges that lie ahead. The uncertainty can be daunting, but we must remain vigilant and supportive. 🌧️ Route Disruptions : Heavy rains and flooding can render key transport routes impassable, leading to unexpected detours and delays. 🛑 Driver Safety : The safety of our drivers is paramount. Trucking companies often suspend operations in affected areas, creating potential shortages and backlogs. 📦 Delivery Delays : Even after the storm passes, damaged infrastructure can complicate logistics, prolonging delivery times. 📈 Increased Demand : In the aftermath, there’s often a surge in demand for essential goods, placing additional strain on available resources. 💰 Rising Costs : Supply chain disruptions can lead to increased fuel prices and shipping costs, affecting bottom lines across the industry. Effective communication and contingency planning are critical during this time. As an industry, we must be agile and prepared to adapt to the challenges posed by these natural events. #HurricaneSeason #Logistics #SupplyChain #Freight

How do we know that Hurricane Oscar will likely disrupt key ports on the East Coast, New Orleans, and Houston, with shipments to Los Angeles forecasted to face 10-22 day delays in November and December? The past is prologue… Following Hurricane Milton and the ILA strike, Windward AI-powered insights show a 129% increase in vessels anchoring near the Port of Los Angeles between August and September – ships rerouted due to the disruptions. Port calls then dropped by 25% from mid-September to mid-October, indicating congestion, with many vessels arriving, but not being serviced or offloaded quickly. Shipments faced delays of 12-31 days between October 1-20 due to vessel rerouting and late allocations, with many rerouted to Los Angeles via the Panama Canal, as shown below. With Hurricane Oscar’s approach, we expect similar rerouting and delays, especially as the holiday season approaches. Stay ahead with Windward’s real-time insights to navigate these disruptions effectively. #SupplyChain #HurricaneOscar #PortCongestion
