The research center Global Minds at Work aims to facilitate the development of the global competence of young professionals. By doing so, we boost their employability, but also encourage them to contribute to an inclusive and sustainable society. Since we are located in the beautiful city of Maastricht, working interculturally is almost a given. Unfortunately, we do not use the untapped potential of our location. Why is it so difficult to work together across borders? Last week we joined two summits in Kerkrade and Maastricht to talk about this important topic. The after-movie is out, and when you see your efforts condensed in under 2 min movie, it seems wild. 🤯 Don't get me wrong, my guy Fran Salomon did such a great job, and he became my buddy to go to with creative visions I can trust. 💯 As an event planner, finding gratification in those in between, not-so-visible and glamorous moments brings me gratification in the long term; 1. Seeing the Vision come together ✨ When I set out to create the 2nd edition of Specialefestivalen, I knew I could succeed but still felt frightened. Sounds crazy, you might think: "How's it possible to fear your own success?" The more I reflect, the more I realize that fear of good is about withholding our gifts from the world, and that’s something we simply can’t afford. Leading Specialefestivalen didn’t just mean organizing an event; it meant taking on the power—and responsibility—to shape a creative vision. I knew I wanted a festival where knowledge and art could flourish side by side, blending business, networking, and creativity into one space. When we set out to create Specialefestivalen with my team Nora Sørensen, Ira Isabella Jacobsen, Dóra Kilvinger, Iskra Dinko, Thomas Aaboe Fredholm and Marieta Ivankova, in the previous year, we knew it had to be more than just a series of presentations. It had to be a platform where ideas merge, perspectives challenge each other, and the next generation of thinkers feels heard. 🌍 And that's where my second energy booster comes from; 2. Watching each presenter step up, seeing disciplines blend in surprising ways, and feeling the energy of genuine curiosity—it was a reminder of how powerful knowledge-sharing can be. Thank you to every presenter, attendee, and supporter who made this possible. Your courage, curiosity, and openness have set a new standard. Let’s keep inspiring, collaborating, and pushing the boundaries of what’s possible! 🌟 So, to everyone who feels their ideas are too much or too wild, know this: trust yourself and flow with it. When people say it’s impossible, just remember—there will always be someone who believes in you, and if no one else, then you are that SOMEONE. Oh, and thirdly; 3. Seeing my colleagues, attendees and students being moved, encouraged, and pushed to go out there and explore their own passions, face their fears and do that step they were postponing for so long. Awaken that inner hype woman, inner hype man—they’re in there, waiting to cheer you on. Horizon4Poland'24 is a matchmaking event addressed to businesses and the scientific industries. The event's format introduces participants to issues related to the Horizon Europe program, enables them to learn about the Industry Contact Points' offerings, and assists them in finding international partners. As a partner of the Lukasiewicz Research Network, Ekonomikas un kultūras augstskola / EKA University of Applied Sciences participated in the event. The Rector of EKA shared her main insights about collaboration and fostering innovation: ☑️ We have to be brave. We must abandon stereotypes and do things we have never done before. ☑️ The success of research projects and innovation is not always a story about a lack of funding. Sometimes, it is a story about a lack of good projects. ☑️ One of the barriers to successful collaboration is a lack of entrepreneurial skills. #collaboration #project #research #skills

📢 📢📢 An Almost Overwhelming Kick Start of Building Capacity in Open Science and Responsible Research in 2025 📢 📢📢 2025 is shaping up to be my landmark year for Open Science and the responsible conduct of research, with various initiatives converging into (hopefully) impactful actions. Reflecting on my own start to the year, I can already see how collaboration and capacity-building endeavours are setting the tone for progress. My year kicked off across three cities (more or less three hotel rooms + conference rooms), inspiring people and each a hub for advancing these efforts: 1️⃣ Kiel, Germany – At the Kieler Kaufmann, we started the Horizon Europe project, #IP4OS, focusing on best practices in intellectual property management to boost Open Science (https://shorturl.at/HMXH6). 2️⃣ Amsterdam, Netherlands – At the Olympic Hotel, I met with my co-founder of #NERQ (https://lnkd.in/eumDKnAx), Mariëtte Van Den Hoven, to discuss strategies to support NERQ's aims in 2025: 👉 Exchanging good practices and formats for collaboration 👉Stimulating quality training and capacity building for Open Science stakeholders 👉Encouraging research-based innovations in education and engagement 3️⃣ Seville, Spain—Tomorrow, I’ll continue working with EOSC Association, connecting and engaging the ecosystem to the EOSC Node and strengthening the federated network to ensure seamless collaboration in #ERA moving forward (https://shorturl.at/wv09S). **Let’s Connect and Build Together** Suppose you’re passionate about advancing Capacity Building in Open Science and impactful research and want to act. 🤝 | The next partner in the CapTTict project is Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT). 🏫 | Since its foundation in 1994, the Institute has developed into one of the most successful new universities of applied sciences in Bavaria. Strongly rooted in the region of Lower Bavaria, the DIT offers a wide range of attractive courses in the fields of business, technology, digitalization and health. Around 8,600 students study at the campuses in Deggendorf, Pfarrkirchen and Cham, with a high proportion of international students. The DIT is committed to excellence in teaching, applied research and knowledge and technology transfer. It maintains close relationships with regional and international partners. Over the past ten years, DIT has developed the innovative concept of the Technology Campus, a network of decentralized research units in rural areas. These campuses address the local and regional R&D needs of industry, public and private stakeholders and promote technology-oriented regional development and transfer in rural areas. ➡️ The Deggendorf Institute of Technology (DIT) will use its experience with technology campuses to support technology transfer and regional development within the CapTTict project. DIT's role includes contributing to the drafting of the the Guidelines for HEIs/PROs management on tech transfer in the field of ICT, organizing technology transfer capacity building workshops for HEIs/PROs management, assisting in the preparation of the transnational incubation/acceleration programme and helping to develop and pilot the methodology for the selection of ICT technologies for start-up incubation.In addition, DIT will use its role as coordinator of the Bavarian EDIH DInO to help collect and present data on available EDIH/EEN services for SMEs from several countries through a digital tool. 🌟 Last week, I had the honor of receiving the first Unite! Award from Unite! President Tanja Brühl, during the X Unite! Dialogue in #Darmstadt. I would like to thank Unite! - University Network for Innovation, Technology and Engineering for this recognition, and extend my heartfelt gratitude to Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya for giving me the opportunity to contribute to the enhancement of research, innovation, and education across Europe. A special thanks to my incredible team for their enthusiasm in addressing the needs of those eager to innovate. As Tanja said during the ceremony: "Jesus played a key role in the design, conceptualisation, and creation of shared digital infrastructure, including the Metacampus and Agora, and they are crucial for enabling many activities within Unite!. His user-focused approach was most helpful to prioritise action, but most of all, his ability and his passion for fostering true teamwork turns vision into practical reality and transforms the European Universities initiative from an idea to complete action." As someone who typically works behind the scenes, this award allows me to spotlight the #Agoras we're developing for university alliances under the aUPaEU project. I firmly believe these #Agoras hold great potential to foster research collaboration, especially among higher education institutions (HEIs). They are particularly valuable in regions needing rapid digital transformation, where collaboration can drive innovation more effectively. My experience shows that this tool is already proving useful for institutions aiming to enhance their research and innovation efforts. The journey ahead won’t be easy—we will encounter challenges along the way—but I am confident we will achieve our goals. This award reassures us that we are on the right path.
