Women make up only 4.3% of construction workers. The numbers have stayed flat for the last 20 years. Yet time and time again we have seen that women can do the job just as well as their male counterparts. So what’s the issue? Read this op-ed from IL AFL-CIO President Tim Drea and IUPAT Women’s Committee Chair/Painters District Council 30 organizing director Mandy Jo Ganieany to better understand why we are falling short of recruiting and retaining women for good, union construction jobs. Spoiler alert: the lack of universal parental leave and our country’s failing child care system are part of this puzzle.
IL AFL-CIO President Tim Drea partnered with the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades Women's CORE Committee Chair Mandy Jo Ganieany to identify solutions to recruit and retain more women in the build trades. Read the op-ed here: https://bit.ly/3AQ1oQT #1u

Love this post from my Markentum team about International Women’s Day. Women’s stories of courage and relentless pursuit of excellence continue to inspire us. The influence women have on industries, communities, and families is profound, imbuing every aspect of our society with strength, wisdom, and compassion. 💪 Did you know: · 32% of boards that included at least 3 women directors rated innovation as one of the top three strategic challenges companies face (MIT Sloan Management Review: https://lnkd.in/gkmQp5XQ) · 150M fewer people go hungry when female farmers have the same access to resources as men (IDE Global: https://lnkd.in/gY8Kc7vV) · $12T could be added to the global economy by 2025 by advancing women's equality (https://lnkd.in/g-TsubVV) Women are the leaders who challenge the status quo, the caregivers who nurture our future, and the visionaries who see the world not just for what it is, but for what it could be. I hope you took a moment Friday (if not today) to reach out and thank a woman who has made a difference in your life—a mentor, a colleague, a friend, or a family member. Your words can have a powerful ripple effect of encouragement and recognition. 💌 Together, we can build a future where every day is an opportunity to celebrate the power of women. In the meantime, let’s celebrate the indomitable spirit and extraordinary impact of women in our lives every day. 🌷 #WomenEmpowerment #IWD2024 #powerofwomen Dr. Sara Kyle Fara McLaughlin, M.S. in Aging Melodie Reagan Linda J. The proverb "Women and girls are the real architects of society for they belong in all places where decisions are being made" really captures the significance of women's contributions to the development of our societies, communities, and global society. Here's a closer look at this subject: Leadership and Representation: It is imperative that women participate in decision-making procedures in order to guarantee that a range of viewpoints are taken into account and accurately reflected. Women offer distinct perspectives, experiences, and interests to debates and help shape policies and actions, whether they are in business, politics, academia, or civil society. Their presence in positions of leadership contributes to the development of more responsive and inclusive institutions that better meet the needs of all people. Empowerment and Equality: Encouraging women and girls to actively engage in all aspects of society is crucial for attaining sustainable development and peace, as well as being a matter of justice and human rights. Communities become more resilient, economies flourish, and society prosper when women have equal opportunity to share their views and abilities. To fully realize women's potential as change agents, it is imperative to invest in their economic empowerment, health, and education.
Women and girls are the real architects of society for they belong in all places where decisions are being made. I raise up my voice not so I can shout but to recognise and celebrate all women and girls as we commemorate the international women's day. Investing in women: Accelerate progress. #iwd2024womenleadingtheway

Thanks so much Lesley Jane Seymour for having me on your show to talk about remote work and why it's so critical for women. If you want to retain female employees, then give them flexibility so they can manage their work and personal lives. This is not brain science, but an opportunity that's a win win for all. #women #lifebalance #remotework
