A very interesting initative as in this way Europe would get access to cheap renewable power generated in Saudi Arabia. A win-win as the Kingdom has the resources to produce solar at the lowest costs and it would benefit Europe with additional green power supply. In Europe we shouldn't underestimate the sustainable developements in Saudi Arabia, there is a lot going on in that respect. Of course they want to keep on producing and selling oil, but the Saudis are also investing a lot of money in sustainable developements. For instance the investment arm of Saudi Aramaco has a sustainability fund of 7 billion dollars, to invest in technolgies such as Direct Air Capture, CCS and Hydrogen initiatives across the globe. They have also a voluntary carbon market initiative called Regional Voluntary Carbon Market Company or RVCMC that already organised 2 very succesful auctions, of which one took place in Nairobi Kenya. Leading Saudi companies are in this way investing in carbon credits from projects in Africa. European Commission And South Africa Launch The Scaling Up Renewables In Africa Campaign   On the evening of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa unveiled the global initiative Scaling Up Renewables in Africa during the Global Citizen NOW event.   President von der Leyen said: “Africa's clean energy journey is picking up speed. EBRD Provides €45 Million To Support Tunisia’s Energy Transition And Decarbonisation The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is providing a €45 million financing package to Société Tunisienne de l’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG) to aid the energy transition and decarbonisation of Tunisia’s energy sector. This funding will assist STEG in constructing the ELMED project, a 600 MW high-voltage direct-current submarine interconnection cable spanning 200 km, connecting the electricity transmission networks of Tunisia and Italy by 2028.
