As we step into a new year, it’s impossible not to reflect on the challenges and pressures faced by municipal governments across the Canada. So many of my municipal peers have written about this, showing that the work we do at the local level has never been more important. Yet, with these challenges comes incredible opportunity for resilience, collaboration, and innovation. In 2025, I will continue advocating for important City of Cornwall issues, building on momentum to meet the milestones set in Council’s strategic priorities. It’s through a united, forward-thinking approach that municipal leaders will continue to deliver positive outcomes for 2025 and beyond. Looking forward to another year of progress, connections and growth 🙌

#Canberra is the world’s greatest planned city. For some reason it feels like many people resent the fact that Canberra exists at all, but in my view Canberra is a representation of the very best of Australia. The landmarks, the layout of the city, the history are unique. It’s a remarkable place. When the six colonies (now known as the states) came together to form the Commonwealth of #Australia, an international design competition was held to pick a winning design. An architect from Chicago, Walter Burley Griffin (and his wife Marion) beat 136 other people to win the competition. Walter Burley Griffin set out to design what a perfect city would be if there was truly no political interference or compromise. Later in the 1970’s, Griffin’s plan was further expanded upon by an assembly of the best town planners and architects from all states and leading experts from the UK. Statistically speaking, Canberra is Australia’s wealthiest and best educated city. The people that live in Canberra are remarkable and have lived extraordinary lives. If you grow up in Canberra it’s not uncommon to have friends whose parents are diplomats, academics, and senior public figures. Canberra is also Australia’s most progressive city. Most planned cities around the world are generally unremarkable and usually fall far short of expectations. But not Canberra. Every #Australian should be proud of Canberra, it is everyone’s #capital city. https://lnkd.in/gdXyADVu
