The 20th November marked the Equal Pay Day. As part of the Equal Pay Alliance, we are calling for urgent action to tackle labour market inequality and improve employment rights. Delivering equality in employment is essential for the UK government to achieve its missions of kickstarting economic growth and breaking down barriers to opportunity. There is evidence to suggest that women’s employment is characterised by low pay, discrimination and harassment, underemployment, and precarious work. These inequalities are particularly acute for racially-minoritised women, Disabled women, younger and older women, and single mothers. These inequalities put them at greater risk of poverty and worsen the cost-of-living crisis, which disproportionately affects marginalised groups. Women’s poverty is also the key driver of child poverty, making action to tackle gender inequality critical to tackling child poverty and improving the life chances of all children and young people. The introduction of mandatory gender pay gap action plans is welcome, but publishing a plan is not the same as implementing one. Evidence shows that employers are unlikely to take action on equality unless they are compelled to do so by law. The government must meet its obligations under the public sector equality duty, and mainstream equality in the Employment Rights Bill and wider policy change, alongside specific measures to tackle inequalities. 🌟 https://lnkd.in/eW6BUFrf #EqualPay #EndPayGaps #EqualPayDay

The gender pay gap is widening! Which is why it is important to keep striving for equality. Together we can make a difference and the organisations we are working with at Karren Brady's Women in Business & Tech Expo are making a difference by looking at what women need to be supported in the workplace to thrive and progress, starting with inclusive recruitment and female friendly policies and networks. Creating networks where women can meet and support each other are really important and the partners we are working with such as SheCanCode are doing a fantastic job at this, helping women to stay in their chosen career and level up the gap: https://lnkd.in/epRDyqk7 Well done everyone. 🙌 Together we can make a difference and every little step helps to close the gap. #genderpaygap #inclusiverecruitment #closethegap #womeninleadership #diversity
🌟 Today is Equal Pay Day in the UK 🌟 This marks the day when, due to the gender pay gap, women effectively stop earning compared to men and work for free for the rest of the year. The UK’s mean gender pay gap is now 11.3%, up from 10.4% last year—reversing a decade-long trend of narrowing the gap. This widening disparity means that on average, every month working women take home £631 less than men. This highlights ongoing challenges, including unequal pay, caregiving responsibilities, and fewer opportunities for women in higher-paying roles. Equal pay is not just a women's issue; it’s an economic and social imperative. Let’s push for policies that close the gap—like salary transparency, better parental leave, and support for caregivers. Women deserve equal pay for equal work. 💼💪 Join the conversation and get involved at https://lnkd.in/eEk6rUCJ . #EqualPayDay #GenderPayGap #JointheMovement

Today is Equal Pay Day in the UK – the date when, on average, women effectively start working for free. This year, it’s come even earlier than last year, and the stats are sobering: ▪️ The gender pay gap currently sits at 11.3% compared to 10.7% last year. ▪️ Women earn £631 less than men per month and £7,572 less annually. ▪️ For women from the global majority or with disabilities, the gap is even wider. Why? The reasons are systemic: ▪️ Women are more likely to take on lower-paid or part-time roles due to caregiving. ▪️ Flexible working options remain limited. ▪️ The "Motherhood Penalty" derails careers. The danger is seeing this as a woman's issue, rather than a leadership one. Truly 'human' leadership means creating workplaces that challenge bias, support flexibility, and promote equity at every level. If you want to learn more, the Fawcett Society have published research on this and made recommendations for the steps needed to create change. #EqualPayDay #LeadershipDevelopment #TalentDevelopment

🔴 Today is International Equal Pay Day, observed on 18th September. This day highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure equal pay for work of equal value. It reflects the United Nations' dedication to upholding human rights and eliminating all forms of discrimination, especially against women and girls. 📌 Have you ever encountered or witnessed pay inequality in your workplace ⁉ Did you know ? 📍 Women earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn for work of equal value – with an even wider wage gap for women with children. 📍Women are more likely to be unemployed than men worldwide, with wide disparities regionally. I📍t is estimated that only 28 per cent of women employed worldwide get to enjoy paid maternity leave. 📍Globally, nearly 65 per cent of people above retirement age without any regular pension are women. 📍Women carry out at least two and a half times more unpaid household and care work than men. #marketing #un #humanresources #equal #equalday #2024 #linkedin

Today is European Equal Pay Day, the day when women stop effectively receiving payment for their economic contributions for the remainder of the year. Compared to men, women receive 12% less pay for equal work and qualifications. If the reduction in the pay gap continues at the current rate, it will not be closed until 2086. This means that my 13-year-old daughter today will never receive equal pay, as she will be 75 years old by then, long after I am gone. How this is acceptable to any father or employer is beyond me. My daughter, and my son, who is 10, deserve to learn these facts and have this conversation. https://lnkd.in/esEVcDx7 #equalpayday

It's 2024, and European women are still paid 12.7% less than their male colleagues for doing the same job. What a shame! This means they lose about one and a half months' worth of pay every year. Imagine working for free starting today, 15 November. It's time to close the pay gap in Europe and end discrimination. Join our call as we mark the EU's #EqualPay Day. Because pay equality goes beyond earning the same as your male colleagues - it means addressing women's financial well-being and the long-term emotional toll. We must tackle this gap at its source - and address its root causes. ❓What measures has the EU implemented so far to address this gap? 1⃣ The Work-life Balance Directive 2⃣ The Women on Boards Directive 3⃣ The Pay Transparency Directive Each of these is crucial in helping to close the gender pay and pension gaps once and for all. #Equality #EU #PayGap #salary

Yesterday was Equal Pay Day in the UK - coming two days earlier than last year ❤️🩹 On this day, women stop earning relative to men, despite working the same hours. It’s a clear sign that rather than progressing, we’ve taken a step back. It’s easy to feel frustrated or disheartened by statistics like this. But frustration alone won’t change the narrative. Progress demands action—collective and individual. So, what can we do? Support transparency: Encourage companies to openly share gender pay gap data and hold them accountable for change 🤝 Mentor and lift others: Help younger women in your field navigate their careers and negotiate better pay 🙋♀️ Use your voice: Spread awareness, challenge inequality when you see it, and keep the conversation alive 🗣️ At Pioneering People, we believe in paying fairly and on time, regardless of gender or background, and it’s time more organisations prioritised this too 🤝 Let’s not just share our outrage—let’s turn it into action. Together, we can push Equal Pay Day back where it belongs, the furthest date of the year 👋 What are your thoughts? How do you think we can all be part of the solution? #EqualPayDay #GenderEquality #Action #TogetherweRise

Proud to be with a firm that has been recognized as a leader in Diversity Recruiting. Today, on Equal Pay Day 2023, we are reminded of the systemic inequality faced by women, particularly women of color. Women in the United States earn an average of only 83.7% of what men earn, resulting in a difference of $10,000 per year. This gap is even wider for many women of color and women with disabilities. Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su stated, "Equal Pay Day is an unfortunate reminder that historic wage inequity continues." However, the current administration is taking unprecedented action to address this issue through investments in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. These investments will create good-paying jobs, which will help to close the gender wage gap and remove barriers that prevent women from obtaining equal pay. Let us continue to work together to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work. #EqualPayDay #GenderWageGap

International Equal Pay Day represents the longstanding efforts towards the achievement of equal pay for work of equal value. It further builds on the United Nations' commitment to human rights and against all forms of discrimination, including discrimination against women and girls. This year's theme is "it doesn't add up." The national gender pay gap measures the difference between the average weekly full-time base salary earnings of women and men, expressed as a percentage of men's earnings. It is a measure of women's overall position in the paid workforce and does not compare like roles. Our new Labour government has recently set out the legislative agenda for their first months, which includes a draft Equality (Race and Disability) Bill. This bill proposes to “enshrine the full right to equal pay law” for disabled people and ethnic minorities. The same bill also proposes mandatory ethnicity and disability pay gap reporting. Changes are afoot and we await the draft legislation for further details. With the launch of our new briefing ‘The Feminist Future of Work’, we’re highlighting the potential impact of the Labour Government’s new Employment Rights Bill on women’s working lives. With over 1.47 million women set to gain access to sick pay and protections from exploitative zero-hours contracts, women have most to benefit from the new worker’s rights laws. We know, however, that to genuinely improve women’s working lives, the government must go further and address the impact of unpaid care work. Dr. Sara Reis, Deputy Director of WBG, states: “These new provisions could help reduce the gender pay gap and economic inactivity, building a feminist future of work where women are paid fairly, can work flexibly with security, and are free from discrimination.” WBG calls for continued reforms, including: • Extending sick pay to self-employed women • Improving childcare and social care systems • Ensuring flexible work and introducing a new model of parental leave • Restoring access to legal aid in employment discrimination cases Let's work together to create a fairer future for all women in the workforce. 💼💪 Learn more https://lnkd.in/erk9miq8 #FeministFutureOfWork #EmploymentRightsBill
