🔴 Today is International Equal Pay Day, observed on 18th September. This day highlights the ongoing efforts to ensure equal pay for work of equal value. It reflects the United Nations' dedication to upholding human rights and eliminating all forms of discrimination, especially against women and girls. 📌 Have you ever encountered or witnessed pay inequality in your workplace ⁉ Did you know ? 📍 Women earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn for work of equal value – with an even wider wage gap for women with children. 📍Women are more likely to be unemployed than men worldwide, with wide disparities regionally. I📍t is estimated that only 28 per cent of women employed worldwide get to enjoy paid maternity leave. 📍Globally, nearly 65 per cent of people above retirement age without any regular pension are women. 📍Women carry out at least two and a half times more unpaid household and care work than men. #marketing #un #humanresources #equal #equalday #2024 #linkedin

🌟 Today is Equal Pay Day in the UK 🌟 This marks the day when, due to the gender pay gap, women effectively stop earning compared to men and work for free for the rest of the year. The UK’s mean gender pay gap is now 11.3%, up from 10.4% last year—reversing a decade-long trend of narrowing the gap. This widening disparity means that on average, every month working women take home £631 less than men. This highlights ongoing challenges, including unequal pay, caregiving responsibilities, and fewer opportunities for women in higher-paying roles. Equal pay is not just a women's issue; it’s an economic and social imperative. Let’s push for policies that close the gap—like salary transparency, better parental leave, and support for caregivers. Women deserve equal pay for equal work. 💼💪 Join the conversation and get involved at https://lnkd.in/eEk6rUCJ . #EqualPayDay #GenderPayGap #JointheMovement

The gender pay gap is widening! Which is why it is important to keep striving for equality. Together we can make a difference and the organisations we are working with at Karren Brady's Women in Business & Tech Expo are making a difference by looking at what women need to be supported in the workplace to thrive and progress, starting with inclusive recruitment and female friendly policies and networks. Creating networks where women can meet and support each other are really important and the partners we are working with such as SheCanCode are doing a fantastic job at this, helping women to stay in their chosen career and level up the gap: https://lnkd.in/epRDyqk7 Well done everyone. 🙌 Together we can make a difference and every little step helps to close the gap. #genderpaygap #inclusiverecruitment #closethegap #womeninleadership #diversity

The 20th November marked the Equal Pay Day. As part of the Equal Pay Alliance, we are calling for urgent action to tackle labour market inequality and improve employment rights. Delivering equality in employment is essential for the UK government to achieve its missions of kickstarting economic growth and breaking down barriers to opportunity. There is evidence to suggest that women’s employment is characterised by low pay, discrimination and harassment, underemployment, and precarious work. These inequalities are particularly acute for racially-minoritised women, Disabled women, younger and older women, and single mothers. These inequalities put them at greater risk of poverty and worsen the cost-of-living crisis, which disproportionately affects marginalised groups. Women’s poverty is also the key driver of child poverty, making action to tackle gender inequality critical to tackling child poverty and improving the life chances of all children and young people. The introduction of mandatory gender pay gap action plans is welcome, but publishing a plan is not the same as implementing one. Evidence shows that employers are unlikely to take action on equality unless they are compelled to do so by law. The government must meet its obligations under the public sector equality duty, and mainstream equality in the Employment Rights Bill and wider policy change, alongside specific measures to tackle inequalities. 🌟 https://lnkd.in/eW6BUFrf #EqualPay #EndPayGaps #EqualPayDay

September 18 marks International Equal Pay Day 🌎 – a day dedicated to the ongoing efforts and fight towards equal pay for work of equal value. Today is also about recognizing that we’re not there yet. According to the United Nations, “across all regions, women are paid less than men, with the gender gap estimated at around 20 per cent globally.” Let’s talk numbers: • Women earn 77 cents for every dollar men earn for work of equal value • This gap is even wider for women with children • In the United States, Black women earn only 63.7 cents, Native women 59 cents, and Latinas 57 cents for every dollar that white men earn • Women are more likely to be unemployed than men • It is estimated that only 28 per cent of women employed worldwide get paid maternity leave • Globally, nearly 65 per cent of people above retirement age without any regular pension are women • Women carry out at least two and a half times more unpaid household and care work than men Thousand&One was born out of the recognition that gender and race combined creates hostile working conditions for Women of Colour, impacting the way they navigate day-to-day life and work. The direct financial consequences leave Women of Colour overworked and undervalued. Women are still being paid less than men for the same work. The gender pay gap is real and very much persistent in our societies to this day. Women earn just 77 cents for every dollar men make 💰and if nothing changes, it will take 70 years to achieve equal pay. This isn’t just a statistic, it’s a reality that affects women’s lives, limiting their financial independence and professional opportunities. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Women also bear an unfair share of unpaid work 🧹 performing at least 2.5 times more household and childcare 👶tasks than men. This invisible labour creates a double burden that limits women’s opportunities and perpetuates financial inequality. Equal Pay Day ⚖️ isn’t just about achieving fairness in wages, it’s also about recognising and valuing all work, paid and unpaid. It’s time we enforce equal pay laws, demand transparency in salaries, and ensure that unpaid work is acknowledged and supported. #GenderPayGap #EqualPayDay #UnpaidWork #FairWages #EquityNow #GenderEquality

Proud to be with a firm that has been recognized as a leader in Diversity Recruiting. Today, on Equal Pay Day 2023, we are reminded of the systemic inequality faced by women, particularly women of color. Women in the United States earn an average of only 83.7% of what men earn, resulting in a difference of $10,000 per year. This gap is even wider for many women of color and women with disabilities. Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su stated, "Equal Pay Day is an unfortunate reminder that historic wage inequity continues." However, the current administration is taking unprecedented action to address this issue through investments in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. These investments will create good-paying jobs, which will help to close the gender wage gap and remove barriers that prevent women from obtaining equal pay. Let us continue to work together to ensure that women receive equal pay for equal work. #EqualPayDay #GenderWageGap

Today is Equal Pay Day in the UK – the date when, on average, women effectively start working for free. This year, it’s come even earlier than last year, and the stats are sobering: ▪️ The gender pay gap currently sits at 11.3% compared to 10.7% last year. ▪️ Women earn £631 less than men per month and £7,572 less annually. ▪️ For women from the global majority or with disabilities, the gap is even wider. Why? The reasons are systemic: ▪️ Women are more likely to take on lower-paid or part-time roles due to caregiving. ▪️ Flexible working options remain limited. ▪️ The "Motherhood Penalty" derails careers. The danger is seeing this as a woman's issue, rather than a leadership one. Truly 'human' leadership means creating workplaces that challenge bias, support flexibility, and promote equity at every level. If you want to learn more, the Fawcett Society have published research on this and made recommendations for the steps needed to create change. #EqualPayDay #LeadershipDevelopment #TalentDevelopment

Equal Pay Day 💵⚖️ The persistence of the gender pay gap is rooted in ingrained inequalities. Women, particularly migrant women, face overrepresentation in the informal sector, leading to low-paying, unsafe working conditions without social benefits. Additionally, women bear the burden of three more hours of daily care work than men, encompassing household tasks and caring for children and the elderly. The motherhood penalty exacerbates pay inequity, affecting working mothers with lower wages, particularly as the number of children they have increases. Gender stereotypes, discriminatory hiring practices, and promotion decisions also contribute to pay inequalities. The fight for equal pay and pay equity is urgent as income inequality disproportionately affects women. In the United States, Black women earn only 63.7 cents, Native women 59 cents, and Latinas 57 cents for every dollar that white men earn. Addressing underpaid and undervalued jobs in the care sector, where women make up 67% of the workers, is crucial. The Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC), led by the ILO, UN Women, and OECD, is dedicated to achieving equal pay for women and men globally. By uniting a diverse set of actors with different areas of focus and expertise, EPIC supports governments, employers, workers, and their organizations to make concrete and coordinated progress towards this goal. EPIC stands as the only multi-stakeholder partnership working to reduce the gender pay gap at the global, regional, and national levels. #genderpaygap #equalpayforall #equalpayday

“Happy” Equal Pay Day everyone. In the UK today is the day that the average working woman effectively stops getting paid. The average salary for working women in the UK is on average £7572 a year lower than the average working man. Depending on which data you look at and how, at the current rate this gap will close between 2044 and 2069. And we are well ahead of the global curve (though only actually 14th globally, with counties like New Zealand, Spain, Namibia and Moldova ahead of us. We need to do better. https://lnkd.in/eCszQsUZ.

The gender wage gap is widening and it’s more than just a numbers game. For the first time in 20 years, women are falling further behind in pay, highlighting systemic issues that go beyond salary — the undervalued realm of emotional labor. From administrative tasks to uncompensated caregiving, women are consistently asked to do more while being paid less. “Leaders need to make the invisible visible by acknowledging and detailing the emotional labor that each person does, to redistribute the workload or address pay disparities. While lower-level female employees are disproportionately assigned to (or “volun-told”) invisible work, like taking notes at a meeting, proofreading presentations, and other administrative tasks, women at all levels end up shouldering emotional labor.” Dive deeper into understanding emotional labor and how we can create meaningful change on Fast Company: https://lnkd.in/ga3z4qXm Learn more about Upwardly Global’s Women’s Economic Power initiative here: https://lnkd.in/g_zidzus #GenderPayGap #WorkplaceEquity #WomensEconomicPower
