Our members are decision makers in the largest school districts in the country, with ability to make significant changes to food quality and food access in the United States. But we don't accept funding from food companies or manufacturers and rely on donor support to make that happen! This #GivingTuesday, please consider making a gift to the Urban School Food Alliance. Any amount will help us continue research and create resources that transform food systems and change the lives of families nationwide: https://lnkd.in/gJatPgPV

Today, my kids took part in a Harvest Festival at their school, bringing a bag of food to support our local food bank. This tradition just reminds us the reality that many families in our community rely on these donations to make it through the week. It’s heartbreaking to know how many people, including kids, are struggling to get food on their plate, yet 1/3 of all food doesn’t make it to the plate and is wasted. Efforts by organisations like FareShare UK and local food banks are crucial, but we need broader changes to reduce waste and improve food access. 1 in 11 people globally goes to bed hungry every night 2.8billion people can't afford a healthy, nutritious diet - that’s 35% of the global population In June 2024: 14% of UK households were living in food insecurity, including 3M kids 2.5M adults reported not eating for a whole day because they couldn’t afford or get access to food #fighthunger #reducefoodwaste #supportlocalcommunities #gratefulforfood

Please join the Chamber in welcoming new member, Food Helpers! From Food Helpers: Food Helpers is Washington County’s leader for helping those who are fighting against hunger. Over 42 years, our non-profit organization has provided programs distributing supplement food and nutritional information/education to food insecure residents of Washington County. The USDA and Feeding America estimate that there are about 18,800 food-insecure people in Washington County, PA. While there are many great food support programs, it is also estimated that roughly 38% of the food insecure population may not be eligible for traditional, government-funded food programs. It’s hard enough to ask for help, but to then be turned away is unthinkable. This is where Food Helpers steps in, to offer aid, education, and resources for this forgotten group. https://lnkd.in/e2HQYe3P #PT Chamber #Welcome #fightinghunger

It's clear from the data that food recovery is vital to solving the wasted food problem and food insecurity. So why does so much edible food get tossed in the landfill, instead of being donated? Every sector of the food industry faces challenges to donation. For #HungerActionMonth, our latest blog post takes a closer look at those challenges and how to address them through measurement and data, as well as industry collaboration. #FoodInsecurity #FoodSystems #FoodRecovery #Sustainability https://lnkd.in/eeS2Cfji

Food insecurity affects every community in the U.S. Feeding America’s Map the Meal Gap study is a powerful tool to understand local impact and take action. We can leverage this data to address factors impacting food insecurity and unite to ensure everyone has access to the food and resources we all need to thrive. Many of us have experienced hunger or know someone who has. When we listen to people facing hunger and use the study's findings, America can choose to end hunger. Whether it’s advocating for a strong farm bill or investing in our communities, it’s up to all of us to unite in our efforts to create a future where everyone has access to the nutritious food and resources we need to thrive. Even when we disagree, we can all agree on ending hunger. Hunger is a challenge we can overcome together. Join us on our #nutritionmission here at Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County by volunteering or donating so we can continue to provide nutritious food to our community. We are currently serving over 436,000 people per month on average, including 138,000 children and 86,000 seniors #wefeedOC #wefarmOC

🌟 Exciting News as We Approach the 33rd Annual Fifth Third Day!🌟 This May 3rd (5/3), join us in celebrating a special day dedicated to community and compassion. Each year, Fifth Third Day symbolizes our commitment to tackle the pressing issue of food insecurity, one community at a time. 📈 In today's challenging times, food pantries are experiencing the same budgetary pressures that affect us all. With grocery costs having risen by 24.7% since March 2020 (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics), and less overstock available for donation, food banks are finding it increasingly difficult to support those in need. But there's hope! * On Fifth Third Day, and throughout May, our collective actions will make a tangible difference. Your involvement will help us provide millions of meals across our 11-state footprint, extending even to California and Texas. Let's come together to make a significant impact! Share this post, spread the word, and let's fight food insecurity together! #FifthThirdDay #CommunitySupport #FightFoodInsecurity #MakeADifference #FifthThirdBank #communities #53Day #53better

Today is World Hunger Day, a time to reflect on the critical issue of food insecurity affecting millions worldwide, including its significant impact here in the U.S. According to a 2024 report from Feeding America: 🌍 Food insecurity exists in all 3,144 counties and county equivalents as well as all 435 congressional districts in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. 🌎 Child food insecurity rates reach almost 50% in some counties across the U.S. 🌏 The national average cost per meal, which reflects how much money people who are food secure report spending on food, has also reached its highest point in the last two decades. At Sharebite, we're dedicated to being part of the solution, working hand-in-hand with partners like Feeding America and City Harvest. To date, we have donated 9.5 million meals and counting to communities in need across the U.S. While today serves as a significant reminder, our commitment to fighting hunger extends far beyond just one day. Let’s work together and continue to fuel hope and take out hunger.
