Excited to share that, I represented Uniper at the Agrivoltaics IFE conference this November. This event focused on Accelerating Investments in Agrivoltaics. Our panel discussion delved into the critical role of agrivoltaics in addressing pressing global challenges: 🌡️🌍 Climate Change Mitigation: How agrivoltaics can help countries achieve their Paris Agreement goals and biodiversity targets. 🌳🍎 Sustainable Food Systems: Exploring strategies for transitioning to a more sustainable and resilient food production model. 📈💲 Scaling Up Investments: Overcoming the hurdles to scaling up agrivoltaic projects, particularly at the intersection of food, energy, and water security. We also explored the business potential for European companies in Africa, addressing the region’s risks, regulatory challenges, strategic stakeholder engagement with the farmer at the center and financial facilities. By combining solar energy with agriculture, agrivoltaics offers a promising solution to enhance food production, conserve water, and reduce our carbon footprint. Let's harness the power of innovation to build a sustainable future. acknowledgement: Uniper Fraunhofer-Institut für Solare Energiesysteme ISE #agrivoltaics #renewableenergy #sustainability #climatechange #foodsecurity #energytransition #uniper #climatepositive

World Fund and Katapult VC on seaweed as an essential climate solution by Craig Douglas, Partner at World Fund, Ross Brooks, General Partner at Katapult Ocean, and @Alp Katalan, Fellow at World Fund 👇 Why it matters 👇 Seaweed, the “superhero” of nature, offers dual climate benefits: reducing emissions and capturing CO2. It can replace fossil-based products like plastics, cut methane in livestock, and even enhance biodiversity. As seaweed cultivation scales, startups face challenges from MRV (monitoring, reporting, and verification) to regulatory hurdles. With global seaweed production up threefold since 2000, Europe’s nascent biostimulant and bio-packaging sectors could hit €3.1B by 2030. While seaweed CDR (carbon dioxide removal) still needs scientific validation, its potential to combat climate change while supporting ocean ecosystems makes it a promising climate investment frontier. ☀️ Harvesting the Sun: Energising Agriculture & Biodiversity 🌱 As the world grapples with the intensity of the climate crisis, water scarcity, food insecurity and loss of biodiversity, a proven solution has emerged: agrisolar. The marriage of solar power and agriculture has now been successfully implemented for over a decade across Europe, providing possible benefits such as: • Increased crop yield by 15-60% • Reduced water usage on farms by 20-30% • Boosted biodiversity net gain up to 280% • Maximise land efficiency with dual land use To fully realise agrisolar’s potential, policymakers must act decisively by streamlining regulatory processes, providing financial incentives and investing in grid infrastructure. By fostering innovation and supporting farmers, Europe can lead in this promising field, ensuring that solar energy helps both our communities and their fields whilst fighting climate change at the same time. 🌍 A Major Milestone for Climate Action: EU Certification Framework for Carbon Removals 🌱 The Council of the EU has just approved a groundbreaking framework to certify permanent carbon removals through carbon farming and carbon storage in products. This initiative marks a significant step toward achieving the EU’s climate goals by fostering transparency, accountability, and incentivizing innovative carbon removal practices. At INNO4CFIs Project, we are thrilled by this development. It aligns perfectly with our mission to accelerate the adoption of nature-based and technological solutions for carbon sequestration. Our work focuses on enabling carbon farming innovations, fostering collaboration, and building strategies that contribute to sustainable ecosystems and resilient businesses. The new certification framework will empower projects like INNO4CFIs by creating a standard for quality and credibility in carbon removal, paving the way for enhanced market uptake and societal trust. Together, we can drive impactful climate action. Stay tuned as we continue to explore how this framework can amplify our efforts! 💡 Learn more about the EU’s decision: https://lnkd.in/d-spYzJT 📌 Discover INNO4CFIs: www.inno4cfis.eu Fondazione E. The EU Bioeconomy Strategy enables a green and just transition and covers all three dimensions of sustainability: environment, society, and economy. The major goal is to create a society that is more inventive, resource-efficient, and competitive while balancing environmental protection, food security, and the responsible use of renewable resources for industrial purposes. 🎯 To reach these objectives, the updated Bioeconomy Strategy was accompanied by a targeted Action Plan along three main action areas: 1. Strengthen and scale-up the bio-based sectors, unlock investments and markets. 2. Deploy local bioeconomies rapidly across Europe. 3. Understand the ecological boundaries of the bioeconomy. 📊 The European bioeconomy is one of the EU’s largest and most important sectors encompassing agriculture, forestry, fisheries, food, bioenergy, and bio-based products with an annual turnover of around 2 trillion euro and employing around 18 million people. ♻️ A circular and sustainable bioeconomy has the potential to contribute to all dimensions and objectives of the European Green Deal by i) delivering on EU’s economic prosperity and ensuring a fair and just transition ii) producing fossil-free materials for a climate-neutral future iii) enhancing the protection of the environment and ecosystems. 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐩𝐮𝐬𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 💰🌱 Recently, the Danish government and parliamentary parties prioritized the four green Innomissions, allocating DKK 320 million via Denmark's research reserve. In AgriFoodTure, Mission Director Anette Engelund Friis is pleased about this prioritization. "AgriFoodTure and our fellow mission partnerships – MissionGreenFuels, INNO-CCUS, and TRACE – have proven to be of great value in accelerating the green transition, initiating numerous innovation projects that have already shown excellent results," she says. A recent example from AgriFoodTure is the PERMA project, where a groundbreaking method has been developed to successfully remove methane from the air in livestock housing, biogas production plants, and wastewater treatment plants. "Since AgriFoodTure was established in 2022, we have experienced strong commitment from companies, researchers, and civil society institutions alike. When we announced our two latest calls for proposals earlier this year, there was significant interest in participating," says Annette Engelund Friis. Later this year, AgriFoodTure is announcing a new and highly important call for proposals focusing on accelerating impact and implementation of climate solutions towards 2030. "The climate challenge is incredibly complex, and there is no time to wait. Therefore, it is crucial that we quickly develop, implement, and scale effective solutions that can reduce the sector’s climate footprint by 2030." "At the same time, we must think long-term, developing bold, radical ideas that will help us reach the 2050 reduction goals. I’m confident that the new investment will give us a good push forward, and I’m looking forward to our work ahead," says Anette Engelund Friis. #climateaction #greentransition
