🤔Is there another way the world 🌍 could be run? And in the face of so much global turmoil, how can we make the future fairer? In 2020, the United Nations turned 75 and marked the occasion by starting a global conversation about hopes and fears for the future. This was the beginning of a process that would eventually lead to the convening of the #SummitOfTheFuture, a major event this September, which will take place at UN 🇺🇳 Headquarters, just before the annual high-level debate of the General Assembly. The Summit of the Future is a chance to get back on track. It will result in a "Pact for the Future" with five chapters on: 1. Sustainable development ♻️ 🌱 and financing for development 📈. 2. International peace 🕊️ and security. 3. Science🔬 , technology and innovation and 💻 digital cooperation (leading to "The Global Digital Compact"). 4. Youth 🧒🏾 and future Generations (leading to "The Declaration on Future Generations"). 5. Transforming global governance 🌐. Negotiations are underway, co-facilitated by Namibia 🇳🇦 and Germany 🇩🇪, Zambia 🇿🇲 and Sweden 🇸🇪 as well as Jamaica 🇯🇲 and the Netherlands 🇳🇱. The event will consist of sessions and plenaries based around the five main tracks and other topics that cut across all of the work of the UN 🇺🇳, including human rights, gender equality and the climate crisis. 👉🏾 What is in for Africa? ✅ The Global governance reform aims towards a more just and equitable international system, it is crucial to push for appropriate African representation. ✅ Boost for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs). ✅ Effectively tackling climate 🌱 crisis of which Africa is disproportionately affected despite having caused it to a much smaller amount than other parts of the world. Here is more on what you can expect from this once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape #OurCommonFuture: https://lnkd.in/dAxW5YrU Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany Germany in the UN #SummitOfTheFuture #AfricanRepresentation #WorldPolitics #Peace #Stability #NewYork #SustainableDevelopment #PactForTheFuture #GlobalDigitalCompact #DeclarationOnFutureGenerations

Female leadership is integral to the climate movement - a green hammer for the glass ceiling. GCoM is committed to gender mainstreaming in every dimension of its work, under the leadership of GCoM Board Member and Mayor of Despeñaderos, Carolina Basualdo, GCoM is currently developing a Gender and Inclusion Approach. Pictured below, GCoM Co-Managing Director Piero Remitti and GCoM Senior Advisor Asma Jhina engage with experts from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Moldova to enhance women’s leadership and participation in policy-making, including in areas related to environmental and energy security. This meeting of #EU4Dialogue Women’s Platform for Agenda Setting #WPAS took place recently in Brussels, the second in a series that will continue to boost female leadership. Gender diversity and inclusion presents enormous strengths for all systems, including local governments, and numerous studies have demonstrated that it improves processes and outcomes - essential in the context of climate policy. In Moldova, gender disaggregated indicators are used at the local level to evaluate the country's Nationally Determined Contribution climate commitments. 💡Do you have an example of how climate and gender policy go hand in hand? Share it in the comments below. Covenant of Mayors - Europe
