It was an honor to attend The Explorers Club's Climate Week event, “Moving Beyond Fashion's Waste to Protect Nature,” with Isabella Hershey. Listening to Samina Virk, Arshiya Lal, and Elizabeth (Liz) Ricketts discuss the future of sustainability across the fashion value chain was incredibly engaging and inspiring. With production levels still on the rise, it’s easy to think that sustainable fashion is an oxymoron. However, the insights shared on this panel started to give me a bit of hope. Now, more than ever, leaders need to have open conversations about what real change looks like. Utilizing sustainable and ethically sourced raw materials, reducing production, and providing greater transparency to consumers are essential steps forward. These discussions are just the beginning, and I look forward to seeing how the industry moves forward from here…

Dedicated Sustainability Report 2023 We’re Dedicated to changing the industry norm but there’s still a lot of work to be done to minimize our impact. We want to be credible and responsible as a brand, and one way of being that is through transparency. Transparency is equally about sharing achievements as well as challenges and being honest about your improving areas. With that said, we’ll be sharing our journey towards a more fair fashion industry, with all that it entails. In our annual CSR report, you'll get insight into how we work, why we work the way we do, and what our current, as well as future, challenges are – all from a sustainability viewpoint. ✨Let’s talk about greenwashing in fashion✨ This week, I had a conversation with some like-minded sustainable thinkers in fashion, and we couldn’t help but dive into the topic of greenwashing. It’s disheartening to see brands making exaggerated eco-friendly claims that don’t hold up under scrutiny. This practice not only misleads consumers but also diminishes the genuine efforts being made by those truly committed to sustainability. But there’s another issue on the rise: greenhushing. This is when brands stay silent about their sustainability efforts to avoid scrutiny or criticism. While it might feel safer, this approach prevents the open communication and education that our customers need and deserve. Transparency about processes, sustainability, and areas for improvement isn’t just about accountability; it’s about building trust and fostering a deeper understanding. By openly sharing our journeys—both the successes and the challenges—we can help educate consumers, inspire other brands, and push the industry forward. It’s through honest, transparent communication and a willingness to continually improve that we can build a better industry and make a real, positive impact. Let’s continue to hold ourselves and our industry accountable for the change we want to see. 🌍

Sustainability and fashion. We'll say it up front, it’s not an easy match. The general guideline in all things sustainability comes down to ‘produce and consume less’. According to the popular “30WearsChallenge” you should wear every piece of clothing at least 30 times. Yet at Mayerline we believe that is just a start. For more than 65 years we design clothes to be worn for years while keeping their allure and quality. However wear and tear is only one thread in the giant sustainability patchwork that is at the core of how we conduct our business. Today we are 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝘅𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝘂𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗴𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝘁 𝗢𝗻-𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 and in creating a thriving business based on principles that ensure an ever more sustainable approach. It is by no means a finished masterpiece. Our latest Pass It On-report 2023 is a step in opening up about an ongoing process of improvement and care for all involved. Please take a moment to 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟯 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 “𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗜𝘁 𝗢𝗻”- 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 in which we openly share our sustainability strategy and realisations. #PassItOn https://lnkd.in/eipHDhaM Proud member of Claes Retail Group

Sustainability efforts are much like an iceberg. While the visible tip may be seen by external stakeholders, it represents only a small fraction of the work involved. Beneath the surface lies a vast foundation of dedication, resources, and initiatives that are crucial but often unseen. Just as an iceberg’s strength comes from its hidden mass, sustainability success depends on the substantial and often invisible efforts of the internal teams. That's why a sustainability report is such a valuable source of information. It highlights the efforts that are normally out of sight but are essential. It has been inspiring to work on this hidden mass with the internal teams at Mayerline Brussels, CKS Fashion and JBC; from a very strong commitment to accelerate the investment in more sustainable materials to strengthening the strong relationship with suppliers; with a continued effort to support communities locally but also far away and the first try-outs on circular fashion in a very transparent way. And this thanks to the very dedicated internal teams in all departments Claes Retail Group to "Pass it On". #Sustainabiss #SustainabilityReporting #PassItOn

This week, we participated in the second edition of Move! Sustainable Fashion Summit, an event organised by Modaes in Madrid that brought together various industry stakeholders to analyse and discuss sustainability strategies and challenges. Clàudia Hosta, our Director of Circularity, took part in a round table on eco-design and waste circularity, where she highlighted Mango's commitment to prioritising low-impact materials and designing adopting circularity criteria, with the goal that by 2030, these will predominate in Mango products. Hosta also emphasised the importance of collaboration within the sector to advance towards achieving common circularity goals. At Mango we see sustainability as a journey the fashion industry has to make in order to achieve a more just society, and to reduce its environmental and social impact. Our sustainability roadmap, called Sustainable Vision 2030, was created to reduce the company's environmental and social impact and is comprised of three key policies: Committed to the Product, Committed to the Planet and Committed to People. #Mango #Corporate #Sustainability

🌍Regulating the Future of Fashion🌍 Yesterday, Vestiaire Collective and the Fédération de la Mode Circulaire brought together thought leaders to discuss how we can regulate the fashion industry for a more sustainable future. Hosted in Paris, the event highlighted legislative, social, and environmental challenges—and how we can tackle them together. Key Takeaways: 🚨 Anne-Cécile Violland (Assemblée Nationale): - Legislative progress is underway, but we must ensure laws remain impactful despite Senate negotiations. - Incentives like bonus-malus schemes show promise. - Focus areas: enhancing recycling, reusing waste, and addressing social dimensions (workers' rights, social economy). 💼 Majdouline Sbaï (European Parliament): - Called for greater transparency and regulation in global supply chains. - Emphasized tools like the Digital Services Act, stricter controls on chemicals (REACH), and stronger oversight of international trade practices. - Urged for fiscal strategies (customs duties, green VAT) to support circular actions. 🌱 Claire Thiebault (UNEP): - Highlighted environmental hotspots in textile production: emissions, water usage, and chemicals. - Advocated for a roadmap to: - Change consumption habits (redefine overconsumption). - Invest in recycling and infrastructure (e.g., microfiber filtration). - Promote circular materials and reduce barriers to innovation. 💡 What’s Next? To shift the fashion industry, we need: - International collaboration on shared goals. - Support for SMEs to adapt to circular models. - Political will to combat ultra-fast fashion and its global impacts. The future of fashion must be circular—but the path forward requires bold action and cross-sector collaboration. Let’s work towards a system where the true cost of fashion—for people and the planet—is finally accounted for. 👏💚 + un grand merci à l’équipe de la FMC pour cet événement !
