The forthcoming WHO Fifth Webinar on ''Strengthening community engagement through digital literacy and transformation" will take place on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, from 14:00 to 16:00 (CEST), via Zoom in English. In traditional community engagement approaches, physical presence and face-to-face communication foster meaningful human interactions significantly influencing emotions, strengthening social cohesion, and driving collective actions. In this ever-changing landscape of communication through digital transformation, tremendous convenience, speed of connectivity and timely interactions continue to transform human interactions while building a social fabric known as the "Network Society." Striking a balance between traditional modes of in-person community engagement and leveraging the transformative power of digital technologies to build well-being communities and societies alongside addressing risks through a variety of measures is a mesmerizing topic to inspire conversations for moving forward. The webinar series is co-organized with the International Union for Health Promotion and Education - IUHPE and Alliance for Health Promotion - A4HP | Genève Internationale (geneve-int.ch) Please use the link on the poster to register and join the webinar to share your experiences, issues, and thoughts. People come up with ideas daily, but these ideas need a shared interest to hold value. For instance, we have advocated for social media first aid for many years. Initially, there was little interest because the need wasn't apparent, and users didn't recognize it as a problem. So, we expanded our reach from the West Coast to the East Coast in the U.S., then moved to the UK, African countries, Southeast Asia, and back to the U.S. Our goal was to demonstrate global interest at local, federal, and international levels, as well as within the corporate sphere. This expansion took nearly five years, contributing to an overall effort of 14 years. Sometimes, it takes decades for great ideas to mature and find the perfect moment for implementation. When I met with the International Visitors Leadership Program (World Orlando), which included advocates from South and North Asia (including Ukraine) and Europe. During this meeting, I introduced our Social Media First Aid initiative. It was enlightening to learn that in some countries, our approach is viewed more as prevention rather than intervention. Additionally, our "SocialMediaHotline.com" ( Launching 2025 or Sooner ) could be particularly useful in Kosovo, which has a large number of call centers that serve global needs for the youth . What you see you today stems from conversations like this…..#GlobalTouch #Solutions

✨ JOIN US! Take part in upcoming event exploring the value and feasibility of shifting to locally led evaluations in humanitarian settings. 🗓️ Date: 30 Jan ⌚ Time: 13:00 — 14:30 UTC 🔗 Register: https://bit.ly/40nNO1u The authors of ALNAP’s upcoming paper will present a conceptual framework for understanding locally led evaluation and the principles that underpin it, as well as practical steps for implementation. We will also hear insights and critical reflections from evaluators working across local and international contexts, on: ➡️ The value and benefits of greater local inclusion in evaluation processes ➡️ The role of strategic commitments - how organisations can meaningfully engage with and participate in locally led evaluations ➡️ Practical examples - including reflections from two organisations on fair and equitable contracting processes Background: Locally led humanitarian action and the growing attention to accountability to populations affected by crisis both support the case that local evaluators are better able to lead evaluations based on their deeper understanding of local contexts, cultures and values. Yet reflections from evaluation stakeholders for ALNAP ’s upcoming study indicate that the practice of locally led evaluation is not prioritised or incentivised, and evaluations remain top-down and internationally led. So why, despite compelling calls for change, is the sector slow to shift - and what needs to change?

The Grand Inga-Dam Project is a priority for Africa's development and to ensure universal energy access. The total construction bill has been calculated to be as high as $80 Billion. The Dam is expected to generate an estimated 43,200MW of power to support current regional power pools and their combined service to transform Africa from traditional to modern sources of energy and ensure access to clean and affordable electricity. Over half a billion people in Africa are at risk of being left behind without electricity access by 2030. Africa is where the energy access battle will be won or lost. Without access to reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy, the region will not reach its development aspirations or achieve an economic transformation that can lift millions out of poverty.
