How one conservation team is saving Peru's last spectacled bears. In the heart of Peru’s Laquipampa region, the Spectacled Bear Conservation Society Peru (SBC) team is fighting more than just wildfires—they're protecting a fragile ecosystem and the last remaining population of spectacled bears in the equatorial dry forests. Thanks to SBC's quick mobilization, fires have been kept at bay in key habitats—but the battle is far from over. SBC is working tirelessly to build long-term solutions, including community fire brigades and stronger protections for bear habitats. The stakes are high. Learn more and help ensure a future for Laquipampa's bears and the communities that call it home in our blog below: https://hubs.ly/Q02_mLT00

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us for the exclusive Grantor’s only BBQ party on Sunday, September 8th! The event was a tremendous success, and we truly enjoyed connecting with you in such a lovely and relaxed atmosphere. We were glad to hear your stories and feedback about why you protected your land. Grantors play an essential role in Owl Creek Conservancy, and it’s no exaggeration to say that we couldn't achieve our goals without your support! What is a Grantor you ask? A Grantor is a landowner who has decided to protect their land via a conservation easement. What is a conservation easement? It is a legally binding agreement between a landowner and a nonprofit land trust (like us!) that limits inappropriate development of a property. The easement is designed to protect the land's conservation values, such as scenic views, wildlife habitat, or agricultural land. Interested in conserving your land? Drop us a line, give us a call or visit our website for more info. Two new #RecoveryPlans have been released to support the malleefowl and forty-spotted pardalote 🐦 Listed as #endangered the forty-spotted pardalote is one of Australia’s rarest birds and is found only in Tasmania. The malleefowl survives in all mainland states except Queensland and is listed as #vulnerable. The objectives of the plans are to: 💚 secure existing populations across the species’ range 💚 maximise chances of long-term survival 💚 protect and restore populations and habitats 💚 reduce threats. The plans were developed over many years with contributions from groups including conservationists, scientists, and Traditional Owners. We are doing more than ever to protect more of our natural world, fix more of what’s damaged and care for the places we love. Head to dcceew.gov.au and search ‘malleefowl’ or ‘forty-spotted pardalote’. #LoveOurBiodiversity #BiodiversityMonth

🚨 Oaken Wood in Aylesford is facing its greatest threat in decades. Kent County Council’s draft Mineral Sites Plan proposes expanding Hermitage Quarry into this ancient woodland, which could result in the loss of over 50 hectares of irreplaceable habitat and biodiversity. This would be the largest single development threat to ancient woodland in England, even surpassing losses from HS2 and the Lower Thames Crossing. We are working alongside local campaign groups and conservation organizations to stop this destruction. Together, we’ve raised concerns through official consultations, and we need public support to continue fighting for this precious woodland. 🙌 If you support the Save Our Woodlands appeal today, we can continue actively engaging with local campaign groups to protect Oaken Wood and other ancient woodlands at risk across the county. Great that Nutrient Neutrality is delivering benefits for nature and water quality. Great that NE are facilitating this to unlock houses. But what is the plan? About a year ago, NE said that their presence in Tees for NMS was temporary while the private sector filled the void. Tees was reported to be the first target NN area because it was easy to solve with land use change and the housing growth in the area was high. An objective was to enable the private sector to flourish. Neither of these have happened. NE are hemoraging local team advisers due to work load pressures who don’t have capacity to do their statutory duties let alone the ‘nice to have’ informal advice contracts which are ESSENTIAL to unlocking mitigation schemes. LPAs also don’t have capacity to do their statutory duties and are struggling to recruit posts with little funding they do have. So what is the plan? Is it a private market? Or a public service? Or will the market continue to be stuck in uncertain territory for both house builders and mitigation providers as has been the case for the last 5 years? #fixthesystem
To date, Natural England’s Nutrient Mitigation Scheme has offered credits for over 6,000 homes in the Tees and is fully meeting credit demand - speeding up housebuilding and nature recovery for local communities. The benefits of embedding nature recovery into the planning of new housing include: 💧 protection of rivers and coast 🦔 more space for wildlife like songbirds, hedgehogs and butterflies to thrive 🚶improved access to nature for people and the wellbeing boost that provides Read our new blog to learn more about our work with partners Tees Rivers Trust and Durham Wildlife Trust to deliver benefits for people and nature in the Tees. https://lnkd.in/emhN3Z3y #NatureRecovery #HouseBuilding #NutrientMitigation #Tees

We work to support landowner-led conservation at a West-wide scale. Here's what we mean: ☑ Last year, Western Landowners Alliance worked with placed-based, landowner-led collaboratives to secure more than $4.5 million in funds for watershed restoration. ☑ We negotiated with the USDA to get $22 million in commitments to support conflict reduction practices in areas where wolf and grizzly bear populations are expanding. ☑ We helped landowners earn hundreds of thousands of dollars in habitat lease payments through the Grassland Conservation Reserve Program and Wyoming's migratory big game conservation program, and got the program expanded to Idaho and Montana! 🔆 Our place-based partners rely on us to help break ground on real, impactful conservation efforts that support working lands. But we can't do it without you. Please give now and 2x your impact today! https://wla.social/match24

“Walder Foundation is proud to support this important partnership which advances nature-based solutions that benefit biodiversity and communities in the Chicago region. This work will help mitigate the negative effects of climate change in some of Chicago’s most impacted communities while boosting access to safe green spaces, restoring critical habitats, and enhancing community health. By demonstrating multiple benefits, these projects can serve as a catalyst for advancing nature-based solutions across the region.” — Jack Westwood, Senior Program Director, Environmental Sustainability
Some positive conservation news for the Chicago-Calumet River watersheds 🌱💚🌱 NFWF and partners announced six projects selected to receive $2.1 million in grant funding to enhance habitat and greenspace throughout the Chicago-Calumet region. Projects supported by these grants will protect and conserve fish and wildlife habitat, reduce stormwater runoff, engage most-impacted communities in restoration activities, and improve access to greenspace. We can’t wait to see the results! https://loom.ly/GQjCXYg The Chi-Cal River Fund is a partnership among NFWF and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), USDA Forest Service, BNSF Railway, Cleveland-Cliffs, Salesforce, Crown Family Philanthropies, Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, Hunter Family Foundation, the The Joyce Foundation, and the Walder Foundation. 📷: Kayakers in Chicago. Did you know The Conservation Fund has prioritized conservation of working farmland, ranchland and forests since our founding in 1985? Of the nearly 9 million acres across the U.S. we have protected, over 3 million acres are working lands that generate economic value and jobs in local communities. And in Georgia, we've secured over 1,100 acres across 22 farms in the region. Learn more about how we sustain working farms in Georgia and across the country: bit.ly/402pClE.
