The secret sauce of an effective community fundraising campaign is that it narrows down a key and sometimes overlooked part of the cause and takes an opportunity to educate through physical engagement. Sadly, the best and most effective kids’ cancer treatments in terms of survival are often the most damaging to young bodies and more likely to result in a poor quality of life. Late effects programs offer rehabilitation strategies to help kids reclaim as much of a missed childhood as possible, while also contributing to the work needed to one day no longer require such programs. Essentially, helping kids like Hugo to be healthy enough to take part in activities like The Kids' Cancer Project's The Better Challenge. People are given the opportunity to, inspired by Hugo, set their own personal goal and walk/run 90km (or any customised version best suiting) this month, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Whether it be regarding fitness, recovery, getting more outdoor time, walking a ridiculously cute dog, settling yourself and clearing your head, or finding the motivation for cutting your time down on a stuffy packed bus to go to work, and spending part of the commute in the fresh air. Ultimate supporter satisfaction is where getting involved and helping others provides fulfilment and adrenaline powerful enough to go out and smash any challenge. I’m looking forward to each year seeing The Kids’ Cancer Project and the incredible #childhoodcancerresearchers and programs we fund enable more and more #kidscancer survivors to enter #thebetterchallenge. Reflecting on Our Journey As we look back on our journey at Fighting Cancer Today, we are filled with gratitude and pride for what we have accomplished together. Our mission to provide emotional and financial support to cancer patients and their families has led to incredible milestones. Through the collective effort of our dedicated community, we have distributed countless comfort kits, provided essential transportation services, and offered crucial financial aid for utility bills, food, and housing. Our achievements are a testament to the power of community and compassion. Each donation, volunteer hour, and act of kindness has contributed to a brighter, more hopeful future for those battling cancer. We've seen firsthand the impact of our support, from easing the burden of daily expenses to providing a sense of normalcy during challenging times. As we move forward, our goals remain ambitious. We aim to expand our reach, ensuring that no cancer patient or family faces their journey alone. We plan to enhance our programs, offer more comprehensive services, and continue sharing the inspiring stories of resilience and hope that define our community. There is just 6 weeks between these photos 💔 Childhood cancer is not something anyone wants to think about. We didn't. Until it happened to us. Only 2% of childhood cancer research funding comes from the government. The rest comes from people like us... normal people that have been directly impacted, and are doing everything we can to change the outcome for other children. We operate almost entirely on a volunteer basis. Fundraising gurus will tell you that, to attract corporate partnerships and support, we need to find a way to align our causes with the business's aims and policies. We need to find 'synergies'. The challenge is, childhood cancer isn't on any business's #ESG policy. There aren't many synergies to be found. But, we still need to raise money; to support our awareness campaigns, our pledge to ICR's research project, and real-life children and their families throughout their cancer journey. Today it starts! 🌍💪 As many of you know, I have been fortunate to survive ovarian cancer, but sadly, not everyone is as lucky. That’s why Lena's Run for Life means so much to me—and why I hope you'll join me in making a difference. Starting Monday, September 2nd, we’ll be walking, biking, and running—any way we can—toward a shared goal: raising awareness for ovarian cancer. This isn’t your typical race; there’s no fixed distance. Instead, every kilometer you log counts as we aim to collectively circle the globe in solidarity. Participating is simple: just set aside one hour at any time during the week of September 2nd to 8th, wherever suits you best. Whether it's a walk, a bike ride, or a run, your contribution matters. The participation fee is SEK 150 (around EUR 13), and every single cent raised goes directly to vital research on one of the deadliest cancers affecting women—ovarian cancer.
