Water may have gained greater visibility at COP29, but the shameful outcome of a new global climate finance goal left many delegates with heavy hearts 💔 The deal will also, crucially, leave many communities to face the impacts of a climate crisis they didn't cause without the financial and practical support they need. #COP29 has underscored Southeast Asia’s critical role in achieving global climate targets. As Boston Consulting Group (BCG) “Countdown to New Climate Ambitions After COP29” highlights, the region can lead among others through carbon removal solutions and Article 6 advancements. With its rich ecosystems—mangroves, rainforests, and peatlands—Southeast Asia is uniquely positioned to scale NBS that capture carbon, enhance biodiversity, and protect livelihoods. Article 6 developments also offer opportunities for climate financing and carbon credit trading, unlocking investments for sustainable growth and decarbonization. To stay on course, Southeast Asia must harness these opportunities, balancing development with bold climate action. How can we drive these solutions to the forefront? Let’s discuss!

During the recent COP29 (2024) summit, significant attention was being given to mobilizing climate finance. The goal is to raise funding in the trillions to address climate adaptation and mitigation needs in vulnerable countries. Yes, we need that kind on money to take some critically serious issues. More and more countries must accept the reality and start in right earnest. #SustainableFuture #NetZeroBy2050 #Decarbonize #GlobalMethanePledge #GreenRecovery #Coreglobal

Investing in nature is investing in our future. As we reach the final days of COP29 negotiations, governments must recognize nature’s critical role in #ClimateAction. This week, a global group of NGOs, business coalitions, Indigenous Peoples organizations, and influential individuals has issued an urgent ‘COP29 Nature Statement’ calling for strong recognition of nature in the New Collective Quantified Goal on Climate Finance text under discussion in Baku this week. There is no #climate solution without #nature. Read the full statement here: https://lnkd.in/eHHhj-bK Nature4Climate #WithNature #Mission2025 #ProtectWhatWeLove

Nature-based climate solutions, including protection and conservation of tropical forests, are key to meeting international climate goals but remain severely underfunded. This week's carbon markets agreement is an important step forward for nations seeking financing for forest protection efforts, and nations and corporations in a position to support urgently needed nature-based climate solutions. The announcement is also an encouraging signal of growing momentum at this COP, which got off to a slow start with a protracted debate about the agenda. The adopted principals provide a framework for ongoing negotiations, which must center the voices of developing nations and Indigenous peoples, and move us from aspiration to operation to ensure just, credible, and effective carbon markets. #ClimateScienceforChange #COP29 #ClimateCOP (📸 : UN Climate Change)

COP29 promised to be the turning point for global climate finance but left vulnerable nations like Bangladesh grappling with unfulfilled pledges. With rising seas, stronger cyclones, and limited resources, the stakes have never been higher. The fight for equitable climate funding continues at COP30 because the cost of inaction isn’t just financial; it’s our planet’s future. There is no viable climate solution without nature. Yet this year's COP hallways and negotiations are notably missing its presence - both literally and figuratively. The Blue Zone devoid of sunshine and nature, feels symbolic of a larger challenge of recognising nature in the climate negotiations. 🌱 The numbers tell a revealing story: we ran a quick analysis and found that nature-related mentions in the media during the first week of COP29 decreased by 71% compared to COP28. But today, marked a critical moment. Greenhouse Communications worked with the Nature4Climate Coalition to convene more than 80 organisations to demand stronger recognition of nature in the New Collective Quantified Goal on climate finance. 🗣️ Read the COP29 Nature Statement here: https://lnkd.in/eS5YRCix I feel deeply inspired by how the global nature and climate community mobilized within just 48 hours to amplify this important message. As we approach tomorrow's Nature and Indigenous Peoples Day, I hope governments recognise that we must lead and invest #WithNature. As we reflect on COP29, there’s a number that is important for government and public sector leaders to keep in mind: 1%. One percent of monthly household income. That’s how much 69% of people around the world are willing to contribute to advance climate action according to the largest global survey to date on people’s views of climate action. This shows a strong public readiness for bold climate initiatives, despite a shared belief that others might not be as willing to act. This disconnect helps explain why some governments face challenges in advancing decarbonization efforts. Achieving a just and equitable green transition requires balancing immediate concerns with the need for rapid change.
