As we approach the 10th Anniversary of World NGO Day on February 27th, let's come together to celebrate the monumental contributions of over 10 million nonprofits and the 50 million people powering them globally. This day stands as a testament to the boundless impact and dedication of these organizations and individuals, spanning across 89 countries and breaking barriers to unite us all in a common mission. It's a call to action to support, connect, and amplify the voices of nonprofits, especially highlighting the critical role of women in leadership positions within this sector. With the global market size of NGOs reaching $329.3 billion in 2020 and expected to grow, the importance of these organizations cannot be overstated. Initiated by Marcis Skadmanis, World NGO Day has become a global phenomenon, receiving support from international leaders and communities alike. Let's honor this decade of impact by engaging with and supporting the vital work of NGOs around the world. It's International Women's Day! I always mark this day remembering how very women-run this industry is: 75% of nonprofit staff identify as women, according to the American Association of University Women. Unfortunately, we've still got a long way to go before we are a women-led industry: “only 42% of nonprofit boards are led by women and only 22% of nonprofits are run by a woman Executive Director/CEO” (AAUW, 2018). We can do better. On the gender-equity front, and every other equity front. Here's a starter article from Candid on what you can do to create better gender equity at your nonprofit: https://lnkd.in/euGAhM-F For more robust discussions on equity in our sector, I follow https://lnkd.in/e4AUeSs7 Drop links for others you follow so we can all make sure we're prioritizing equity in this unique, messy, amazing, flawed, and crucial social impact sector of ours.

🌟 I'm excited to share the release of our latest report on the critical need to fund #womenspoliticalleadership in the Global South! There is an acute lack of funding, especially to directly fund women and women-led and feminist organizations, especially those from historically marginalized and underrepresented groups. 🌍 📈 Dive into the data and recommendations, and join the conversation about advancing gender equality in politics. Download to learn more! https://bit.ly/49Qbnl3 #WomenInLeadership #PoliticalLeadership #GenderEquality #NewReport
Despite their growing presence, women's rights and feminist organizations receive a disproportionately small share of funding across financial sources such as governmental development assistance, foundation grants, and private donor contributions. This is especially true for direct funding to support women's political leadership, which remains a fraction of already limited resources. Funded by the Open Society Foundations, research by the Panorama Strategy team uncovers the critical need for resources in this area, particularly in the Global South. As a record number of countries prepare for national elections this year, read our report to explore the insights and concrete recommendations that can drive meaningful change: https://bit.ly/49Qbnl3 #Philanthropy #WomenInPolitics #WomeninLeadership #SocialImpact

💥MELINDA FRENCH GATES DONATED $1B TO SCALE WOMEN'S POWER GLOBALLY. “Because I have been given this extraordinary opportunity, I am determined to do everything I can to seize it and to set an agenda that helps other women and girls set theirs, too,” she wrote in an op-ed Tuesday. "We know that economies with women’s full participation have more room to grow," she explained. "That women’s political participation is associated with decreased corruption. That peace agreements are more durable when women are involved in writing them. That reducing the time women spend in poor health could add as much as $1 trillion to the global economy by 2040." Investing in women, especially in Emerging Markets, is crucial for building the New Economy. This investment will foster a resilient, fair, and sustainable future. More women work in nonprofits; so why do men end up leading them? This is the title of a necessary article that Harvard Business Review just put out. It is easy to see that the nonprofit and NGO workspace - at least in Europe and the USA - is heavily women-dominated. And anecdotally, I have watched the manager and leadership ranks becoming more populated by women over the last 10 years or so. But -- also anecdotally -- I noticed how the large CSOs tend to be an exception to this trend. This important article, by Cathleen Clerkin, PhD at Candid, the US data clearing house (among others) for nonprofits, offers us the numbers. These indicate that my gut-sense was right. More work to be done, US civil society! This is not right - and not aligned with our espoused norms. https://lnkd.in/eYw_EYQN. hashtag #genderatwork #nonprofits

Praying for women in women’s month. There is one thing we all share in this life, and that is to have known, currently know or know about the care, mentoring, interest, prayers, achievements, or advocacy of a woman. Be it your own mother, a carer, teacher, or your dear Gogo. Maybe it is the committed nurse at your local clinic, or a courageous woman from your country that brought about change, or the smiling volunteer that dishes out warm soup on a rainy day to the homeless. If we reflect on this, we can quickly name a significant woman in all these categories just in South Africa, never mind the African continent. And this is what we want to celebrate this women’s month in South Africa. The impact women have made in all spheres of life. If we zoom into just the humanitarian space, we know that 40% of the humanitarian workforce are women. They have provided frontline care during wars, emergencies and disasters. When they have authority to speak, women’s issues get prioritised and sustainable results are yielded. Please pray with us this women’s month for: • South African women’s resilience to flourish for the good of all South Africans • Societal and cultural barriers to decrease and spaces of impact to become more inclusive • Gender-based violence towards women be intentionally addressed at spiritual, emotional and physical levels in our society • For women to continue to be brave messengers of the good news, just as Mary was when she ran from the empty grave

Today is International Women’s Day (IWD) and this year’s theme is Invest in Women. One of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals is to empower all women and girls. This represents improvement with respect to representation, autonomy, financial independence, personal safety, and more. Women continue to face barriers in making decisions about their own health and lives. In every corner of the world, they are at risk, and violence against women remains high. Everyone deserves safety, opportunity and the right to make decisions about their future. What are we doing to celebrate International Women’s Day? At Iress, we're celebrating IWD all month with 4 themed weeks dedicated to advocating for women. Week 1: Invest in women - Leaders for Good took us through an interactive session around effective decision making Week 2: Breaking norms - We have external speakers joining us for two panel sessions across APAC & EMEA around Breaking Norms Week 3: Giving - This week we have volunteering opportunities and providing charities for our people to donate to Week 4: Reflection - We introduced a new book club featuring book of the month: Lessons in Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. Iress has also been mentioned in WORK180's top 101 workplaces for women 👏 #internationalwomensday2024 #iwd
