Iran There are widespread media reports that, last night, Israel struck sites in Syria, Iraq, and Iran. If those reports are correct, then the demonstration that Israel can target military threats deep in the territory of its adversaries is a necessary step toward rebuilding Israeli deterrence. Much is being made of the fact that, this morning, Iran seems to have downplayed the incident in its own media and signaled reluctance to respond. It’s impossible to know if that’s true, or how the inner circle of Iran’s leadership is processing its next maneuver. That’s one of the things I learned from the Iran expert Ray Takeyh in an April 15 briefing. As he pointed out, the ayatollah is surrounded by a new generation of advisors and counselors about whom not much is known. The video of that briefing can be seen here. The Passover seder In a few days, Jewish families will convene at their seder tables to recapitulate the drama of Jewish liberation from Egyptian oppression. At Mosaic, we’ve published a lot on the subject over the years, looking at everything from the moral and philosophical significance of the Israelites’ final night in Egypt to the archeological and historical records that give clues to whether the Exodus really happened. You can read our favorite Passover-related essays in a new e-book, available entirely free for our subscribers. Just click here and we’ll email it to you. Meanwhile, on our podcast this week, we bring you a lecture from Rabbi Meir Soloveichik. It’s the first lecture of an eight-part course in which he argues that the traditional text used to structure the Passover seder, the Haggadah, is in fact a work of rabbinic political thought: that it can be read as an analysis of fundamental political questions concerning the covenantal foundations of a people, the nature of law, the meaning of freedom, and much else. The entire course is available at MeirSoloveichik.com, and the first lecture can be found here. There is a moment during the seder in which participants, in remembrance of the sage Hillel, eat what we now think of as a sandwich made of matzah and bitter herbs. In his column this week, our language columnist Philologos investigates what in fact Hillel ate in the days of the Temple, and whether he is really responsible for sandwiches, both during Passover and throughout the year. One more note before the holiday. Over one hundred hostages remain in Gaza, though how many remain alive no one knows. We hope that they’ll soon join us in freedom—a freedom that comes, for us who enjoy it, with an obligation to prevent further acts of aggression against the Jewish people. Let us pray, in the words of the Psalms, that “the guardian of Israel neither slumbers nor sleeps.” With every good wish, Jonathan Silver Editor, Mosaic Warren R. Stern Senior Fellow of Jewish Civilization

If you argue that the formation of Israel caused the forced ejection of non-Jewish persons you are not aware of the history of the formation of Israel. Jewish people had inhabited these lands for more than 5,000 years (thousands of years before there was an Islamic religion), though Jews did not always govern the area. The original United Nations approach was to partition the area of Palestine into an Arab state and a Jewish state with about 50/50 land (actually slightly more to the Jewish state). The entire world accepted this (including the Jews) as a reasonable result but Palestinian Arabs and surrounding Arab states rejected it. Ever since then all of the most reasonable potential compromises have been around a "two state solution" that could have been archived from the very beginning. So, this could have been the peaceful solution from the beginning and it is actually the Palestinian Arabs and surrounding Arab states that caused the decades of horror since 1948 (including a war by the Arab states that they abjectly lost to Israel). This video does not discuss this historical context but is an interesting take by a highly intellectual person coming to an objective position about the conflicts currently ongoing in and around Israel. #israel

Daily a Noble Thought - Sep 26 Reason for spoiling friendship with Society? War is not at all required now as people’s contemplating skills have risen. Any nation can live without fearing or antagonising other nations, by handing over the management of border security to the Security Council of the United Nations (UN). War can destroy all wealth of the society. War is a rough action, formed when the early generation of human beings, without thinking capabilities, were living like animals troubling other species. When we compare those generations with the current one, man’s thinking skills have grown manifold. Man’s intelligence level has grown to travel to even moon, and to even apply computer equipment to daily life. Even now, war occurs in the human society. It’s a grave mistake that even now the war destroys the people. Everybody can easily understand, ‘how many lives are harmed in war? How many are destroyed?’ ‘It’s high time now to streamline mankind’s life by constituting and managing the laws on economic rights, the social laws to prevent the strong from harming the weak.’ Presently how many religions are founded and functioning to make to realise the Almighty, educate the virtues, to protect the morality and culture? Then, where is the mistake if many lives are being harmed, killed and their properties are destroyed on war is continuing, even now. Is it not the cause, the irresponsibility in governance and lack of knowledge on Almighty? - Vethathiri Maharishi

The so called Military experts seen on the mainstream medias don't understand Israel. Almost all of their analyses about Israel turn out to be the opposite of what happens. . #Israel is #prophetic, not merely proffessional. Therefore, Athiest military experts cannot understand Prophetic Israel. To understand Israel, You have to understand the word of God prophecied thousands of years ago, the Bible. That the same God doing today. Israel is not about the people called Israelis only it is the evidence that God(Yahiweh) exists. Believe it ir not, the highest civilization humanity reached today first in revealed through Israelis then distributed to the world. That is why Judeo-Christian tradition has been the source of most modern civilizations, technologies, science, innovation and connection of humanity. The narrative of enemies of Israel is to change that, even if the enemy We see are people categorized under areligious ideology, the owner of hatred against Israel is the #Devil known as #Satan that wants humanity to be fully disconnected from God, opposing the Judeo Christian tradion way of life.

Ever wondered what kids are taught in Israeli schools? The average Zionist student experience in K-12 classes prepares them for their service at the Israel Defense Forces, which is required for each “civilian” citizen. #Palestinians have been reaping what the Zionist project has been sowing for generations, but the Zionist ambitions are not limited to Palestine. In fact, 🇮🇱 already invaded #south #lebanon 🇱🇧 and #egypt 🇪🇬 before the armed resistance in both countries forced the colonizers out of their lands, with the help of strategic partnerships with other neighboring countries including #saudiarabia and #syria. The history of the colonial Zionist project suggests that it can only be defeated by armed resistance along with strategic partnerships. Today, the following countries are aligned and its leaders are actively collaborating and creating strategic partnerships to put an end to the unspeakable suffering of Palestinians, under pressure from their own constituents: #Yemen, #Iran, #Lebanon, #Egypt, #Turkey. Moreover, #China is increasingly backing up #Egypt which is critical to keep the US Army in check. Finally, global grassroots movements such as #BDS are adding unprecedented financial pressure on the Zionist project. Is this the end game for the Zionist project? #education

Today marks D-Day, a pivotal moment in modern history that we must never forget. On June 6, 1944, the Allies, led by the United States, assumed the monumental responsibility of standing up to hatred. They made it clear that Nazism and extreme ideologies have no place in our world, underscoring that freedom comes at a heavy price. The cost of liberating Europe from the Nazis and their collaborators was immense. The sacrifices made on D-Day were extraordinary, with over 4,400 Allied soldiers losing their lives on that single day. Over the course of World War II, an estimated 70-85 million people perished, including millions of Allied soldiers and countless civilians who endured the horrors of war to defend our freedom. In the 1930s, as hatred was on the rise, we failed to recognize the insidious spread of extreme ideologies within our societies. We hesitated to take the necessary actions to safeguard our freedom, waiting over a decade to respond. Each day of inaction made the eventual price we paid even greater. Today, we face a similar crossroads. Are we repeating the mistakes of our past by allowing dangerous ideologies to grow unchecked? The threats we face now come from various sources, including radical Islamism, radical wokism, and extremist movements on both the left and the right. What price will we pay in ten years if we fail to act now? Our democracies must begin to ask difficult questions and adopt strategic thinking, drawing lessons from our history to avoid repeating past mistakes. While I don’t have all the answers, I do know this: history tends to repeat itself, but perhaps this time, we can choose not to wait until the cost becomes too unbearable.

Hypocrisy is the evil of the West. Hypocrisy is the defining feature of many pseudo "experts" on war in #Ukraine and lovers of total war on #Russia. Condemn #Putin and do business with his puppet master, the dictator who keeps Russia economically and hates the West. #XiJinping, known genocidal, ruthless dictator. In expanding with his Belt and Road he has introduced something terrible into his vision that has to do with the ideology of race. Through the ruthless genocide of the #Uyghurs, he has set himself the most absurd of ends, that of shaping a new humanity: that of common destiny, with the superiority of the #Han race.

I just finished watching Einstein and the Bomb on Netflix Two things that resonated with me: Jews are singled out. 80 years ago and today The end then wasn't a good one. This round? Time will tell... People find a reason (today it is zionism) Somehow, people aren't antisemites, but are now anti-zionists. Or anti-Israel And yet, you see businesses the world over get targeted and marked for being Jewish Israelis and Jews are singled out, regardless if they agree with Israel's policies or not Technology isn't opinionated. It is just there The atomic bomb was used to end the war with Japan. Good or bad? Who really knows. What would happen if Nazi Germany got to the bomb first? What if the US wouldn't have used the bomb and instead only used the fact of having an atom bomb? Live video communication has been used in this war in Gaza. By Hamas sharing live their atrocities. By Hamas, Hezbollah and Israel showing their view points (sometimes from a drone or a missile). Did I say technology isn't opinionated? Me? I hate this war. I wish it would end and we go back to more peaceful things But it isn't meant to be 😔 I don't see a way for Israel to exist without Hamas being eradicated and the intent of Islamist extremists to annihilate Israel and the Jews. It is either us or them - and not because Israel or Jews are war mongering bastards (we're not). For me, this is an existential threat. Today as it were during the holocaust, only somewhat different in its circumstances. Go see the documentary. It isn't long. It is interesting. Lets continue tinkering with technology for improving humanity. Striving to live in peace and not be at each other's throat. It isn't worth it.
