Community spirit is shining bright in Pickering ✨ When our customers shared an idea for a Thursday Lunch Club, we knew we had to get behind it! The get-togethers at our Ings Garth Community Centre have since become a huge success – helping people to socialise and reduce isolation, all whilst serving up delicious hot meals. This is all thanks to a dedicated team of 12 volunteers 👏 💜

Guests, management, and staff. The trifecta responsible for creating the service and sense of community we want to provide. Guests experience it. Staff provide it. Management creates it. Usually the focus for management is on staff > guest interactions. But too often the root cause of your retention problem comes from management > staff interactions. Not just what you say. But how you move, how you carry yourself, how you interact with guests. Are you embodying the values you expect your staff to portray? Staff HAVE to feel valued AND understand their place in the systems we create. They have to see that we as management are willing to bus a table, if it brings us closer to the goal. We need to tell them our hopes, our expectations, our standards, and share our passion for this industry with our junior staff in every interaction we have with them, whether it’s an actual conversation or whether they’re overhearing you describe a dish to a guest. Get out of the office. Make that pre-shift motivational, not administrative. Talk to your bussers. Encourage. Motivate. Mentor. Maybe grab a tray once in a while. Lead by example. We can’t expect staff to do it if we wouldn’t do it ourselves. This is how you build community.
In order to succeed in restaurants. Embrace community. Who’s with me❓ 👊🏻 Ps. If you are aligned with this, don’t be afraid to share it. ♻️ #restaurantindustry #hospitalityindustry #community

Why would anyone host a party for 100 people? It’s not just about the fun (although there’s plenty of that). This past weekend, we threw our annual ugly sweater cookie and beer exchange christmas party—a house full of laughter, connection, and yes, a little chaos. It wasn’t easy. It wasn’t cheap. But it was worth every ounce of effort. Here’s why: Fostering community matters to me. In a world where life pulls us in different directions, creating moments that bring people together feels more important than ever. Memories are the ultimate investment for me. Parties like this are more than events—they’re milestones. People will remember the laughter, the cookies, and the shared moments long after the cleanup. Living intentionally isn’t always about minimizing for me. Sometimes, it’s about maximizing the things that align with your values. For me, that’s family, friends, and creating spaces for connection. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Because aligning my time, energy, and resources with what truly matters is the heart of intentional living. 👇 What’s one way you’ve invested in what matters most to you lately?

Hey, fans! We are starting a new week; how is it going? Let's support one another and kick some butts. Keep in mind that since we are all in this together, we can do great things. Remain upbeat and driven, and together, let's make this a great week! More than ever, it is critical for communities to come together and support one another. Let's encourage one another when we face difficulties and recognize one another's successes. When we work together, we can get past any challenges that we face. Have you ever interacted with the residents next door? Developing a close-knit community and support network can be achieved through cultivating ties with our neighbors. Spend some time getting to know people around you and introducing yourself; you never know how it can affect your day-to-day activities. You never know; you might meet someone who can assist you in an emergency situation or even become a new buddy. Developing relationships with those around us can make the community more cohesive and encouraging for all members. By interacting with our neighbors and building relationships, we may establish a support system that is advantageous to all parties. In order to make sure that we can rely on one another in difficult times, it's critical to promote a sense of community and unity within our neighborhoods. Suggestions on how to build relationships with your neighbors: 1. Host a neighborhood block party or BBQ to bring everyone together in a casual setting. 2. Join or create a neighborhood watch group to promote safety and communication among residents. 3. Volunteer for community events or projects to collaborate with your neighbors on common goals and interests. 4. Start a neighborhood book club or gardening club to encourage regular interaction and bonding among residents. 5. Attend local town hall meetings or neighborhood association gatherings to stay informed and engaged with community issues and initiatives. 6. Organize a neighborhood cleanup day to work together on improving the appearance and environment of your area, fostering a sense of pride and teamwork among neighbors. 7 Ways to Establish Good Neighbor Relationships: 1. Make an introduction. 2. Be Personable and Kind. 3. Engage in Effective Communication. 4. Show consideration and respect. 5. Engage in Activities. 6. Provide Aid and Encouragement. 7. Take Care of Your Neighbors. Take the plunge and say hello. Maybe crack a joke to break the ice. #earlybird #weekendvibes #buddies #positivity #togetherness #payitforward #attitude #localsupport #optimism #progress

The greatest asset of any food pantry isn't the food, but the people who make it all happen. Food pantries exist not just to give out food, but to serve and empower communities, and that starts with understanding the value of human connection. Volunteers are the heart and soul of these operations, and their role goes far beyond distributing food. If they aren't empowered with the bigger picture of their mission, they risk missing the chance to address deeper needs — emotional, spiritual, and social. A true investment in a food pantry means investing in people — those who serve and those being served. It’s about recognizing that everyone who walks through those doors, whether to give or receive, carries more than physical hunger. There’s a need for compassion, connection, and a sense of belonging. Food can fill stomachs, but it’s the human element that fills hearts and transforms lives. When volunteers understand that they are part of something bigger, they move from just handing out food to making a meaningful difference. They become catalysts for change, helping individuals not only overcome hunger but also find hope, dignity, and community. It’s in this deeper service, where food pantries become much more than a place to get groceries — they become a place to be nourished in every sense of the word. Innovation and willingness to change are crucial for long-term success. Holding onto tradition without recognizing the need for progress can lead to stagnation and, ultimately, obsolescence. #itsnotaboutfooditsaboutpeople
The changing landscape... In this, social capital becomes a lifeline, the invisible thread that unites us. It’s the wealth of relationships, trust, and shared connections that enable individuals to tap into resources they might otherwise never reach. When food pantries foster trust and collaboration, they become more than just places to distribute food—they become the beating heart of the community. They transform the notion of “they” into “we,” creating an environment where everyone belongs. Whether someone is serving or being served, each person plays a crucial role in sustaining the spirit of togetherness. Everyone has a seat at the table. https://lnkd.in/eP3F5YuB

I've done it now! Decided to be brave and create a Kindness Village - it's a community that mixes personal and business challenges. We all have something to learn about our wellness, and any business challenges that we may hit a wall on. The ultimate vision for a Kindness Village is to create a place where kindness is the norm, and every individual feels a sense of belonging and purpose. It’s a community that exemplifies how living with kindness can lead to a more harmonious, supportive, and fulfilling life for everyone involved. Let me give you some information on what Community offers: “We are here for friends, social entrepreneurs for business networking and education. It is a community designed to facilitate both social interactions and professional connections among its members. It typically aims to create an environment where individuals can build personal relationships, share experiences, and support each other in both personal and professional endeavors". There are fours (4) pillars: #1. Help how you can get help with problems you are having professionally or personally with Q & A sessions.. Open office hours.. and like the idea of themed office hours. #2. Action, there will be challenges, progress logs, (a public journal) goals and accountability #3 The Learning Lab: You can read articles, take courses, watch and listen to the Talks. I also encourage you to teach a class as an expert. #4. Connections: Most important, networking, just for fun themed events, support to build relationships. I am gifting you your 1st year of membership on me. It's $465.00/ year annually. or $38.00/ month Use FOUNDER in the coupon space. 💡 A volunteer’s gains 💡 This weekend, I had the privilege of participating in an incredible community event supported by Beyond Social Services. Themed "Healthy You & Me”, the ground-up event is aimed at tackling rising food costs and improving access to healthy diet choices for vulnerable families. The highlight? 👩🍳 A cooking competition. The key ingredients? Instant noodles and a generous amount of community spirit! Outcome? Healthy meals can be created by adding a bit of “this and that”! 🍜 🥒 🥚 The event wasn’t just about the cooking competition. My learnings 💡 ? 🥳. Opportunity X Courage X Hope: 5 ladies courageously stepped out of their comfort zone to show their craft to familiar and strange faces. Feeling stressed before and during the competition, all now have an experience to be on-stage and speaking in public. 🤹♀️ 💃 🔔 I am inspired by their courage. Overcoming a challenge regardless of scale always add to our life experiences for our next opportunities. 🥳 Community kinship: residents stepped out of their rental flats to support neighbours. S17 Community Kitchen (https://lnkd.in/gg6qHeeZ) opened their space to support the event and corporate entities such as Ninja Shark sponsored home appliance as prizes (aptly fit the theme). Young and young-at-heart volunteers assumed various roles came together and be ignited by the energy of the community leaders and youth emcees. It brought laughter, relaxation and warmth for those who were present. 😍 🔔 I am inspired by organizers' creative programming. It met the needs of the beneficiaries where they are. Free buffet offered a kampung eating feast. Through educational quizzes, audience learned important facts & trends and could choose their choice of food ingredients from the contestant’s food inventory. Minimise food wastage! It is a lifelong journey for me to role model after many kindred & passionate individuals. How can we contribute to the growth and well-being of ourselves and others? Whether big or small, every action counts. Together, we can make a difference. 🌱 #HealthYouAndMe #CommunityWellbeing #FoodSecurity #HealthyChoices #CollectiveWisdom #LocalHeroes #CommunityEngagement #ShareYourRecipes #TogetherWeCan
