Chilly weather and chili peppers 🌶️
Welcome back to the newsletter! We’re reaching the last few weeks of 2024 and entering into the festive holiday season. Meanwhile, programming continues as our team members are on the ground serving across the globe (you can read more about disaster and program updates on our social media channels).
This week, we’re honoring those who are making strides to see transformation and sustainability in their own communities and sharing some free resources to make your holidays meaningful. We hope they help you find practical ways to support the future of Convoy of Hope and support those in need around you.
Let’s jump into it!
Lead the way
Laxmi is a woman in her sixties leading the way in her community by encouraging other women to adopt modern agriculture techniques.
Before joining Convoy’s Agriculture initiative in Nepal four years ago, she encountered several challenges that made it difficult to have additional income.
“Before Convoy training, I only knew traditional farming — rice, millet, and potatoes. It was just enough to survive,” she said. “Now, I can grow crops that let us thrive.”
With training from Convoy’s agriculture specialists, Laxmi is now growing high-value crops, including cauliflower and chili peppers, on her farmland. In addition, Convoy helped her with proper equipment and resources, including high tunnels, organic pesticides, and fertilizers — along with training on crop rotation — to grow her organic farming business.
“I’m proud that my farm is 100% organic,” she said. “It makes a far better product and is healthier for my family.”
