The Connacht Monthly - March

As ever, we’re back with another edition of The Connacht Monthly. A lot happened throughout March, and it was fantastic to see so much happening across our many businesses.

We launched M. Fitzgerald’s bar in March – and it has been fantastic to see the response as people have continued to visit us and check out why we’re as Galway as it gets. Here, you can live life like a local by enjoying pints of stout, cuisine that’ll remind you of granny’s, and cracking live music that’s sure to have you up and dancing. It’s all happening here at our Quay Street bar in the heart of the Latin Quarter.

Galway Hooker officially released their first two beers in association with artist Cathy Hughes. Wild Sea Swimmers and Galway Girl are the first two of many seasonal beers being launched by the Oranmore-based brewery, and each one will feature artwork by Cathy Hughes. The launch took place at the brewery during a Galway Chamber ‘After Hours’ event. There was a great turnout for the official get-together at their Oranmore-based brewery.

We interviewed Sylvain Gatay, Head Chef at Galway Bay Golf Resort, about his role crafting amazing dishes for the visitors, members, and golf societies at this fine location. Sylvain originally hails from La Rochelle in France, so he has swapped the West of France for the West of Ireland. Sylvain has a really interesting story and lots of amazing ideas on creating delightful cuisine. Read his interview here.

Sticking with Galway Bay Golf Resort, we launched our brand-new all-day menu at the Renville spot in March. Sylvain has overseen an incredible array of tantalising dishes featuring many old favourites and plenty of new sensations. Why not check out the whole menu here – including a delicious new breakfast menu that offers plenty of ways to start your day right. Plus, the GBGR team did a beach clean as part of our Green Team objectives. They completed 1.65km of the coastline around the golf course.

An Púcán announced that they are hosting a Premier League quiz from 8 pm on April 4th to celebrate England’s prestigious football competition through the years, with donations in aid of the Galway Rape Crisis Centre. The winning team will claim four tickets to a Premier League game plus a €500 prepaid Mastercard as spending money. It’s shaping up to be a cracking event!

HYDE’s ‘Bottomless After Dark’ event is all set for April 26th. The exciting ‘Bottomless After Dark’ event will celebrate female music icons from 7 pm. Anyone who grabs a ticket will be treated to a delightful sharing board as well as bottomless prosecco to fuel your night. You can purchase tickets for HYDE's Bottomless After Dark on Eventbrite.

We were proud to see WYLDE scoop the best café in Galway award in March. WYLDE on Forster Street claimed the ‘Best Café in Galway’ award at the Connaught Regional finals of the 2024 Irish Restaurant Awards. Ivona Catak, WYLDE Café Manager, spoke after the award announcement: “It’s fantastic to win this prestigious award. The whole team here are delighted and it’s a testament to everyone’s hard work." Congrats to the whole team at WYLDE. Read the full story here.
