On July 13, 1959, the Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC, as the Test Center was known prior to 2012) redesignated the Directorate of Missile Captive Test (located on Leuhman Ridge) the Directorate of Rocket Propulsion and Missiles. This signified the change of the Experimental Rocket Engine Test Stations mission focus from missiles to rocket engines. This set the stage for the testing of the great rockets of the Space Race on what is still often called “Rocket Ridge.”

✈️ Wildfire risk reduction 🔥🔥🔥

Every year, wildfires burn across the U.S., and more and more people are living where wildfires are a real risk. But by working together, residents can make their own property — and their neighborhood — much safer from wildfire. ✈️ Off-duty employment requires approval

Did you know if you are considering off-duty employment (or while on terminal leave), AFMC requires all personnel (military and civilian) to submit an application to their supervisor seeking approval? If you did not know, now you do. This requirement is outlined in AFMCI 51-500, Outside Employment and Business Activities, 8 March 2021. To request approval, complete a DAF 3902, Application and Approval for Off-Duty Employment, (available on e-pubs) and provide it to your supervisor for further routing. Approval is supposed to be secured at least two weeks before the off-duty employment begins. “Off-duty employment" includes more than mere employment for wages or salary.  It means any outside business activity, including self-employment or sales solicitations, for which the employee is compensated. This process ultimately allows your supervisor to properly act on an off-duty employment request while mitigating the risk of any negative mission impact from your potential off-duty employment prior to its initiation.  The main reasons for denying an employee’s request for off-duty employment are that the proposed employment would detract from readiness, pose a security risk, or conflict with an employee’s official duties. The requirement that employees obtain approval for off-duty employment is mandatory. AFMCI 51-500, paragraph 1.5.
