✈️ Off-duty employment requires approval
Did you know if you are considering off-duty employment (or while on terminal leave), AFMC requires all personnel (military and civilian) to submit an application to their supervisor seeking approval? If you did not know, now you do. This requirement is outlined in AFMCI 51-500, Outside Employment and Business Activities, 8 March 2021. To request approval, complete a DAF 3902, Application and Approval for Off-Duty Employment, (available on e-pubs) and provide it to your supervisor for further routing. Approval is supposed to be secured at least two weeks before the off-duty employment begins. “Off-duty employment" includes more than mere employment for wages or salary. It means any outside business activity, including self-employment or sales solicitations, for which the employee is compensated. This process ultimately allows your supervisor to properly act on an off-duty employment request while mitigating the risk of any negative mission impact from your potential off-duty employment prior to its initiation. The main reasons for denying an employee’s request for off-duty employment are that the proposed employment would detract from readiness, pose a security risk, or conflict with an employee’s official duties. The requirement that employees obtain approval for off-duty employment is mandatory. AFMCI 51-500, paragraph 1.5.
✈️ 412 MDG Training Mornings
Effective June 1, the 412th Medical Group will no longer close once a month for readiness training. The 412th Medical Group will conduct Wednesday morning readiness trainings 7:30-9:30 a.m. with patient care resuming 10 a.m. Thank you for your support.
✈️ Arby's will be permanently closing next month
Arby's will be permanently closing next month. The final day of operations will be Friday, June 7. We are looking forward to housing a new, exciting food option for this space. In the meantime, please enjoy the Exchange's other food court options, Taco Bell, Popeyes, and Charleys.
✈️ Edwards AFB Disability Action Team (DAT) - Call to Action
WHAT: The DAT will assess programs, practices, procedures and data for barriers to employment, advancement, and retention of employees, applicants and military members with disabilities. It will also serve as a Member and Employee Resources Group (MERG) for civilians and military with disabilities.
WHY: A MERG is a voluntary, employee-led group that fosters an inclusive workplace aligned with organizational mission, that also seeks to support individuals as they navigate their career.
WHO: Any DAF employee or member regardless of grade/rank, location, disability status, or race/ethnicity/sex.CONTACT: Edwards AFB Disability Program Manager (DPM), Ms. Isabella Morales, isabella.morales@us.af.mil
On June 11, 1955, B-52B tail number 52-008 (commonly called “Balls Eight” due to its tail number) flew its first flight at Boeing’s Seattle location. Four years later to the day, the aircraft arrived at Edwards Air Force Base after receiving a number of modifications at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale to begin its test career. It was modified to carry North American Aviation’s experimental X-15 research aircraft. Balls Eight and the sister ship (003) carried all of the X-15 flights aloft. By the time NASA retired the plane in December of 2004, Balls Eight had flown 1,051 sorties and carried 405 test drops of rocket planes, lifting bodies, space vehicles, and parachute test fixtures. As part of the Museum’s collection, it now stands guard at North Base, where visitors can examine the Test workhorse to see the “kill silhouettes” that actually represent the test vehicles it carried aloft.
