Embrace the News - August 2024
September is here, and with it, the back-to-school rush is in full swing. This time of year, my inbox starts overflowing with questions from parents eager to learn how they can best support their children’s immune systems. To help, my team and I will be sharing 'back to school' tips across our social media channels in the coming weeks.
I also want to take a moment to highlight that last week I had the pleasure of joining Robin Daly on the Yes to Life Show. We discussed the often-overlooked needs of parents whose children are going through cancer treatment. As both a parent and a practitioner, I deeply understand the fear and helplessness that comes with such a diagnosis. Sadly, I’ve witnessed too many parents feeling unsupported and unaware of scientifically backed resources that could make a difference. On the show, Robin and I dive into the critical role that diet can play during the cancer journey—an area that is often neglected in this process. You can listen to our conversation here.
Now, let’s move on to the rest of the news...

How My Family’s Cancer Journey Inspired Me to Help Others
We’re talking to Susie Thomson-Bowen, a practitioner with Embracing Nutrition, to discover what inspired her to support people through their cancer journey.
‘I haven’t had a cancer diagnosis myself,’ she begins, ‘but my family has a history of the disease. Both my parents have unfortunately had to deal with cancer. Dad had a big scare, followed by an operation. But apart from missing a kidney, he’s had a relatively normal life since treatment. Mum faced a more challenging journey, including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, infection, and further surgery.’

Roasted Beet and Walnut Salad
Beetroots are in season and easy to get hold of at this time of year. I wanted to highlight one of my favourite ways to have them with this quick and easy salad recipe. Why do I love beetroot? Beets are rich in antioxidants and fibre, which support detoxification and hormone balance, while walnuts provide omega-3 fatty acids that help reduce inflammation.
Sesame-Ginger Tofu Stir-Fry
We often get asked how to make tofu-based recipes that have a flavour that the whole family will enjoy. This is one of the ways - a stir fry with a rainbow of veggies. Why do I love tofu? It is a great source of plant-based protein which is great for everyone. It also has lots of phytoestrogens, which can help manage menopause symptoms.
Nutrigenomics Hormone Analysis, how it can improve your health
Part of my Nutritgemonics series on YouTube is about how I use these reports to support hormone health, with a particular view on fertility issues, PCOS, Endometriosis and Hormone Sensitive Cancers.
That's all for this month. If any of these topics have resonated with you, know that the team and I are available to support you if you'd like to get in touch.
Have a great week
