A few steps away
Self-limiting beliefs are a real problem. Whether you are at the top of your specialism or just starting out, the same psychological restraints can hold you back. I'm sure you've heard about Imposter Syndrome.
This is almost Imposter Syndrome, but it's not the same.
It's different. Some would say, "I could never be a Managing Director".
On the other hand, some people believe that they are destined for great things. They will stop at nothing to achieve the highest-ranking role possible at any cost.
It won't surprise you to learn that these high achievers are also pretty high up in the divorce charts, or they might as well be divorced.
You can attain the dizzy heights of being a Managing Director but it doesn't necessarily mean that you are a great leader. You can go further than being a Managing Director and rise to the highest employed role in the company, but it doesn't automatically award you the title, "Great Leader".
No - Leaders can be at any level within an organisation. Leadership and great management skills need to be improved in many companies.
This is because companies aren't investing in their people as much as before and the people aren't bothered about learning new ideas or ways of working.
Mentors can be hugely beneficial. Providing there is specific relevance for the mentee, this forward-thinking investment can pay dividends.
Don't let self-limiting beliefs hold you back. There are Managing Directors up and down the country who are pretty ordinary. In fact, one wonders how on earth some of them have arrived in the job. When you boil it down, it could quite easily be a case of right time, right place or even the right face.
To be a true leader, you should have a very good understanding of every aspect of a business and have a style of management that attracts people to help you. People should feel determined to help a Managing Director succeed.
"Surround yourself with good people and you will be great". Not my quote.

Nothing is easy to achieve on your own. Something is achievable with a supportive team.
Next time you look in the mirror, ask yourself a question; What can I do to make my life better and who can I help to make my life better?
Don't get stuck in a rut. Anything is possible and people with less ability or knowledge have managed to secure senior positions in companies, so if you want it badly enough, think of ways to help others to help yourself.
