How would it feel to wake up one day and realize that everything you’ve been working towards as an artist has finally come together?

You’re finally in complete control of your vision and voice, collaborating with other artists you love, and your music resonates with people on a deep level.

You’ve found your place in the industry and are happy and fulfilled doing what you love.

This is not an unrealistic dream.

This is the reality of many artists I have guided.

If you follow me on Instagram and come to our IG Lives (every Wednesday at 12 pm Eastern) then you’ve probably heard me talk about confidence and what its real origin is. You may have heard me talk about how commitment is the key to success. That’s because your commitment is the fuel for success. Because commitment is the magnet of opportunity.

People think that success comes and then you commit. But it’s the other way around. Your commitment is what draws success to you. It’s your commitment that is the key to your confidence.

Commitment is the natural magnet of opportunity.

I just got off two calls yesterday with artists whose commitment was eroding their confidence. But they thought their lack of confidence was the issue. After I explained how it works, they realized that it was their lack of commitment that was creating their lack of confidence.

A whole host of positive momentum is set in motion the moment you choose to commit. The real risk is not investing in yourself—in your commitment to yourself.

However, you still might be questioning your talent and abilities. Maybe you are feeling apprehensive about taking another leap—that is natural.

But your talent is not the problem. Your talent is not in question. Your commitment is.

This often stems from the type of mindset you have. Do you have a “fixed” or a “growth” mindset?

Science once told us that the human brain stops developing in childhood, however, we now know that the brain is constantly evolving and changing. Many parts of the brain respond to experiences and our ‘software’ can be updated through learning.

Despite the neurological facts, some people still think that you’re stuck with the talents and ‘smarts’ you’re born with. Psychologist Carol Dweck, from Stanford University, was the first researcher to explore the idea of fixed and growth mindsets.

In Dr. Dweck’s seminal work, she described the two main ways people think about intelligence or ability as having either:

A fixed mindset: that says intelligence is fixed and static. A growth mindset that says: intelligence and talents can be improved through effort and learning

For people with a growth mindset they understand that not knowing or not being good at something can be a temporary state—so they don’t have to feel ashamed or try to prove they’re smarter than they currently are. Dweck states that in a growth mindset, “students understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through effort, good teaching, and persistence.”

You can convert your fixed mindset into a growth mindset with a little work!

1. Awareness

Acknowledge where you are now, even if you are thinking with a limited mindset. The first step to change is awareness.

2. Reset

Attention goes where energy flows. Practice giving your attention to where you want to be instead of where you are. Infuse everything you do with the energy you want to attract. If you want success, step into what success feels like now in this present moment. Practice the feelings to attract it to you!

3. Consistency

Are your daily actions aligned with your goals? Practice your new mindset first thing in the morning to set the course for the day. “My intention today is to create more ease, joy and abundance with my music. Show me how!”. This enlists your brain, your subconscious and your higher self or the Universe to help accomplish the task!
