Hearing isn't always the first thing to go!
Top of the weekend my friends! Have you ever heard the old saying "Believe half of what you see and none of what you hear"? Proof positive "Hearing isn't always the first thing to go"! As we get older sometimes it's our mind! After all "The mind is a terrible thing to waste".
First impressions can illuminate expectations too. Needless to say it hard to overcome first impressions. When symbolism can take you to a far-fetched conclusions.
For instance, What does "what goes around comes around" actually mean? You've heard that street vernacular. What's the first thing that comes to your mind? Probably revenge or the big payback for a deliberate wrong or pain caused by a sinister individual. In other words, they reaped what they sowed. They got what they deserved!! The meaningful consequences of their actions. Are you still with me?
What about a hog in slop? Pigs really enjoy the mud. When applied to people. It's about a pure abundance of good favor. It's so good you can actually get to wallow in it, like a hog wallows in the mud. Ooooo weee!!!
Let's return to our topic. "Hearing isn't always the first thing to go". You might want to add eyesight to that list too. Now that one that's wayyyyy up there. Where does the your cerebrum matter take you now?
If you tend to think provocatively? Here’s a moment I’ll never forget. It was Thanksgiving about 10 years ago. The women are in the kitchen. And a unique gathering of men with various backgrounds are sharing life stories in the living room. It was halftime. The topic comes up “when do you lose the drive for sexual intimacy”. The first to respond is great granddad. He was 98 years old. His answer was straight from the heart and to the point. He said "You gotta ask somebody older than me"! Big laughs!!! I loved that!!!!
Hearing isn’t always the first thing to go too! How about memories?

Here’s one of my true stories. Back in my KNOK 107.5 days. They gave me an all expense paid trip for two to Hawaii. The reason being, they couldn’t pay me the bonus we had agreed upon. If I got the station to a 4 plus total audience share. Actually we got there a lot quicker than I even thought. However they can't pay me the money. It's okay was my answer to our General manager Mr Chatman. Let’s just keep the trip. We can give it away on the air. No sooner I get back to my office. I get this call from corporate. Mr Earl Graves jumps on the line and said I'm not asking you. I’m telling you have take the trip. Okay I'll go! Jeepers.
Anyway, I didn’t have a girlfriend at that time. So I invited an old college buddy (that's her in the photo) to join me. She accepted the offer. The trip was for 5 days and 4 nights. It began a bit shaky at first. We hadn’t talked in a quite awhile. Our first journey was to take the bus tour of the big island. Then something very unexpected happened.
Come closer here’s another lesson about hearing.
As we passed the Dole's Pineapple factory. She asks "Where are the pineapple trees"? I cautiously responded “Pineapples grow under ground”. Then comes this deafening silence. A few minutes later laughter. A heap see but a few know why!
The amount of tension from that moment was gone! It was the best vacation I’ve ever taken. She was absolutely amazing! It was a vacation life preserver and the remaining 4 and a half days was the stuff that dreams are made of!! I shared that awkward moment with another lady friend of mine when I got back home. She added something I never picked up on. Her insight said “You didn’t embarrass her”. Hummm?
Sometimes we miss the obvious. The right balance and harmony are under our control. When things seem go wrong don't criticize unfairly even if it is seems funny. Hearing isn’t always the first thing to go! Goodwill is on that list. Hey ladies can you hear me? It's the hallmark of this holiday. Remember, what goes around comes around. Then let’s be around the meaning of Christmas and Hanukkah lights for this holiday.
Hearing isn’t always the first thing to go! May God give you eyes to see beauty only the heart can understand and ears to enjoy it! Donut forget it!
