While the parallels are indeed undeniable, it’s as imperative that the hiring team first ask themselves: is this candidate more of a “buyer,” or a “seller?” The process needs to adapt based on the answer. To clarify, if one reaches out a potential candidate, and that candidate responds and says “I’m willing to explore,” that is and needs to be a very different process than that in which the candidate is actively job hunting and proactively applied. The buyer candidate in this sense is a prospect who agrees to a first meeting. The seller candidate is working to secure the “sale,” aka job, granted said candidate’s interest remains in tact.
