As long as I can grow and develop, I want to stay with Wellspect
Meet Elin Johansson, a biomedical engineer turned Technical Product Manager at Wellspect. Now managing Navina catheters and urology raw catheters, Elin's journey reflects her commitment to growth. She thrives on diverse challenges, collaborative work and finds joy in contributing to life-changing experiences for users of our products.
Elin Johansson started at Wellspect 5 years ago, working extra during the summer while studying to become a civil engineer at Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg, Sweden. She did her thesis at Wellspect, and has a master’s in biomedical engineering. After finishing her studies, she became a consultant with Wellspect before her full-time employment. Today she works as a technical product manager for both Navina catheters and urology raw catheters*.
I love collaborating across borders "In my initial year, my focus at the company was narrower, mostly collaborating within my department. In my current role, I've broadened my perspective, engaging across various functions. Collaborating across borders and functions is a highlight; I love the dynamic of new colleagues and tasks.” Elin continues to describe how the collaboration across functions and borders works very well, although it is quite time consuming:
“Managing two significant product areas keeps my daily tasks varied and interesting”, Elin tells us. “Whether handling production issues or long-term improvements, my core goal remains always to ensure the highest possible quality standards for the safety and benefit of our users. Challenges, big and small, are constant—from material concerns to swift production decisions, but also related to how to formulate specifications. How do you measure and specify things like “feels good” and “smooth”?”
Helping people is a driving force “The best part of my job? Hearing from happy users. Their stories of newfound freedom and a transformed life make me immensely proud. Knowing I contribute to life-changing experiences motivates me daily and solidifies my desire to stay with Wellspect, alongside my fantastic colleagues.”
“My passion for MedTech and making a difference keeps me rooted. Every day offers a chance for personal development, making the grass nowhere seem greener. I cherish my tasks, colleagues, and the impact I can genuinely make.”
My best advice to graduate Elin closes the interview by sharing her best advice to a newly graduated engineer:
“If you're a mechanical engineer and not sure where to start, you might end up in the auto industry just because it's big in cities like Gothenburg. But, if you know what you really want, don't be afraid to stick to your guns. I said no to a few consulting jobs because they didn't have any MedTech projects.

- If your first job isn't your thing, don't worry about changing it. Many of my friends doubted their engineering choice, but it turned out the job wasn't the right fit, not the degree. Feel free to switch things up.
- When you're starting out, don't stress about comparing yourself to experienced colleagues. See it as a learning opportunity. Your fresh perspective from school is valuable. No need to feel like you don't belong – you've got this!”
To sum up: Stay true to your goals, embrace change if needed, and value your unique perspective.
