Mass Timber Goes Mainstream: Single-Family Focus
Dear Forest Business Network Newsletter Reader:
The International Mass Timber Conference website got an upgrade recently when we created a new home on the site for the International Mass Timber Report, the 320+ page (annually updated) resource that all conference attendees receive at no charge.
If you didn't attend the conference last March and haven't yet seen the 2024 report, we've got a treat for you. You can now get a nice taste for the content with free access to the 2024 Case Studies and Featured Stories.
One particular Featured Story I'd like to highlight in today's message is Emily Dawson 's insightful piece titled "Mass Timber in Single-Family Homes (2024)." Emily's interest in this topic mirrors what we're seeing here in the U.S. and around the world — that mass timber modular is poised to make a big splash in single family construction. And, spoiler alert, the quote that Emily references from construction market analyst Tim Seims surprised me as much as her... that "no product category has hit mass-market adoption without getting into single-family residential.” Whoa.
Speaking of single family, we're currently building out content at our upcoming 2025 International Mass Timber Conference (March 25–27) that should add some value to this discussion. Here's what's in the lineup so far, and that should expand as we get closer to the event:

1wI have been searching for an article like this one by Emily Dawson, an article that addresses the opportunities and formidable challenges of designing and building sustainable, affordable, mass timber based homes with owner design flexibility, for a long time. A good start!
