Mayor Joyner Declares October as National Community Planning Month in Collierville

In recognition of the vital role planning plays in shaping strong, resilient communities, Mayor Stan Joyner declared October as “National Community Planning Month” in the Town of Collierville. At the October 28, 2024, Board of Mayor and Aldermen Meeting, Mayor Joyner presented a proclamation to Collierville’s Planning Division, honoring the dedication and contributions of the Town’s planners and appointed Planning Commission members who guide community development.

The proclamation highlights the importance of community planning and the planners who help residents and officials navigate the complexities of urban growth and change. By using data-driven insights, Collierville’s planners play an essential role in developing strategies for land use helping the Town prepare for future generations.

“Change is constant, and the work of planners is invaluable in helping our community make informed, thoughtful decisions about our future,” said Mayor Joyner. “Through their commitment and expertise, Collierville’s planners ensure that we create a community that meets the needs of residents today and in the years to come.”

National Community Planning Month, endorsed by the American Planning Association, celebrates how planning provides meaningful opportunities for residents to contribute to the future of their neighborhoods. Collierville joins communities across the country in recognizing the essential work of planners who strive to improve quality of life, support economic growth, and protect the Town’s unique character.
