My Gift to You...

My Gift to You...

"There are two great days in a person's life - the day we are born and the day we discover why." — William Barclay

Last week, I turned a year older and a year wiser. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! As I look at these two pictures, I can’t help but question, “Where has the time gone?” It seems like I blinked and all of a sudden, I’m this BIG age. 😂 Don’t get me wrong, I am truly grateful to have made it this far. 🥰 Fifteen years ago, after being diagnosed with cancer twice, I wasn’t sure If I would even see 40. But God…

One thing I’m learning as I get older is that youth is wasted on the young. I remember hearing this when I was younger but now, I understand it. If only I knew then what I know now.

Another thing is that I don’t bounce back like I used to. No matter how young I think I am (or feel), my body doesn’t agree. The other day, while riding through the streets of Cleveland with about 400 other people, a young boy ran into my bike. We both fell…hard. As he lie on the ground, he cried uncontrollably. I jumped up off the ground to make sure he was okay. He had a huge scrape on his arm and was holding his shoulder in pain. He wouldn’t stop crying long enough to answer my questions, “Are you okay? Can you move?” Although I was dealing with an abrasion, too, I needed to know that he could move.

Eventually, he was able to stand up but he couldn’t put any pressure on his right leg. After a while, the leg got better and he was able to stand up and walk. He apologized profusely for causing the accident. I accepted his apology and reminded him it was an accident. I did tell him to be more careful in the future and to wear a helmet.

Initially, I had a some stinging where my skin was scraped off my right arm but after the medic attended to the boy's injuries, it hit me. The adrenaline was gone and little by little something else began to hurt. First, my neck. Then my arm. My fingers. My hips. My shins. My back. My ankles. My toes. A MESS! A X-year-old’s fall hits differently than a child’s fall. He will bounce back quickly. On the other hand, I’m over here soaking in epsom salt 3 times a day while taking ibuprofen every 4 hours. In case you're wondering, I'm okay for the most part. It will just take some time for the pain to subside.

As I keep replaying the fall in my mind, I can’t help but think about how it could’ve been so much worse. We fell two feet away from a fire hydrant. We could’ve broken some bones. There could’ve been a mass collision by the people who were riding behind us. Or worse. Yet, another reason to be grateful.

Since I’m in a good mood, AND in honor of my special day, I want to give you a gift. Even at my age, it’s not too late to live my dream life. Nor is it too late for you. Just like my 4-year-old self, I still believe in birthday wishes. This year, my wish is for all of us to live our best lives. A lives where our dreams are fulfilled and our potential is fully realized. My gift to you is a copy of my 10 Steps to Create Your Dream Life Workbook.
