This is My Version of Love — What’s Yours?

Figuring out relationships, love, and life with some help from the wise!

‘Each person you meet is an aspect of yourself, clamoring for love.’―Eric Micha’el Leventhal

If the need to love and be loved is ours first, why then do we pretend that a relationship is with another? And, why then do we blame the other when things go wrong?

Because, we haven’t felt grounded within ourselves first… We haven’t felt the stability, security and certainty of being happy about who we are. We are still doubting ourselves, and looking for reassurance outside of us.

We are perhaps fearing the unknown, fearing rejection, fearing we aren’t capable of holding and giving the great love that we have within us.

When one realises the immense potential within, one feels both awe and denial at the same time… Just like Arjuna, who saw the brilliant world that Lord Krishna showed him, we fear the magnificence of what we may create and the grand creation we can be part of.

Satish Kumar says— ‘We are all potential alchemists. We are all capable of becoming artists and artisans.’

Artists of the life we want, and artists of the love we want.

The power to love or not therefore lies within us, as does the power to fear, hate, blame or even be cynical… Thus, what we choose consciously or subconsciously depends on where we’ve reached in our personal journeys.

The journey will take time…and you will reach your intended destination at a time that is perfect for you.

But, to rush the process of love, is to rush the blossoming of a bud, an unnatural one…unless you wish to create something temporary and artificial!

When you rush love, not only will you build something transient, but you will also miss out on its beauty, the finer nuances — the potholes on the pathway, that need your attention and fixing, and the rainbows in the sky, that you need to look up to with admiration and wonder.

The Buddha said — ‘Too fast or too forceful, you miss the way.’

A statement true in both love and life. Neither can you go too fast, nor can you exert too much force on anything.

Perhaps, the most likely reason we go too fast or become too forceful, is because we lack acceptance — acceptance of the person we are, the situation we are in, and the people around us.

The lack of acceptance is nothing but a disconnect between our expectations and our reality. In this disconnection, we feel conflict and pain, disillusionment and apathy.

But, if we understood that our life and love is exactly as it should be, and there is no point in us resisting or rejecting it, then we may just be able to love more, and love unconditionally.

Because, as Marie Forleo, says — ‘Everything is exactly as it should be.’

To alter it is to assume the place of a higher being, and question what was created for a particular purpose — a purpose that we will never completely know, but one that will unfold over the course of our lives…over our struggles in relationships, and our ability to continue to love amid it all.

Our primary job is to love, and to keep that ability to love alive; and we needn’t look too far to reignite this flame called love, it is intrinsic to us..it is who we are —

In the words of Don Miguel Ruiz — ‘The real us is pure love; we are Life.’

Love and life are both within us… In fact, just about everything that you want and wish to create is already with us. It is us fools, who go looking for it elsewhere, imagining we need a trigger or catalyst to keep it alive.

When you realise that everything you want — love, more life or even a dream — can be created within you, because you are the source, love from the outside will become a mere manifestation that happens easily without any effort, without any struggle or strife.

In this surety, live your life like a master craftsman, not longing or looking for love, but vibrating love, vibrating life, vibrating that universal force that already exists with you… Like a great poet once said,

‘Everything in the universe is within you. Ask all from yourself.’ — Rumi
