STEELCON FILES PATENT FOR SIN FLOOR COMPOSITE FLOORING SYSTEM
Steelcon is pleased to announce that we have officially filed patents for a composite flooring system that replaces the need for intermediate beams in a composite deck system.
SIN Floor is unique in that it is a complete structural panel system, comprised of just three main parts: two cold-formed c-sections, a sinusoidally-corrugated deck, and a poured concrete topping. The c-sections act as beams and are continuously welded to the corrugated deck to create one homogenous steel panel. The panels arrive to site fully preassembled and are erected between other structural members. Once the poured concrete topping has cured, the panel acts in composite action to take advantage of the concrete’s compressive strength and the steel’s tensile strength.
“SIN Floor is an innovative design and material solution for clients who require the delivery of a cost effective, quality building, together with a reduced schedule,” said Steelcon Vice President of Engineering Derek Van Ee . “We’re working through the various testing and approval requirements and are excited to make this concept a reality very soon.”
As more and more clients come to us looking for creative solutions to manage budgetary and scheduling challenges, our Engineering Research and Development team continues to innovate new ways to help bring our client’s projects to life.
STEELCON EXPANDS FABRICATION CAPACITY TO WELLEND, ONTARIO
Steelcon is pleased to announce expanded fabrication capacity with the addition of a manufacturing facility located in Welland, Ontario.
Steelcon’s joist team, currently operating out of our Smith Street location, will be moving to the new facility in September 2023, with Operations Manager Mark Bouffard leading the charge. “My team is looking forward to the opportunity to provide expanded turnkey solutions for our clients with this latest exciting investment in our growth,” said Mark.
The newly acquired facility will add 112,750 square feet of manufacturing space to Steelcon’s roster of existing four facilities strategically located in Canada and the U.S., for a combined total of more than 712,750 square feet. Designed to house two of Steelcon’s four SIN Beam lines, fabrication at the new facility will primarily focus on SIN Beam and joist production, as well as Steelcon’s patent-pending SIN Floor composite flooring system.
Production at the new Welland facility is set to begin in September 2023, and at peak capacity, Steelcon estimates the creation of up to 150 new, highly skilled manufacturing jobs.
STEELCON AND MOORE BROTHERS SAFETY TEAMS COLLABORATE TO ENHANCE STRUCTURAL STEEL LOADING PRACTICES
Safety teams from Steelcon and leading flatbed transporter Moore Brothers recently came together at our Brampton shop to enhance loading procedures and safety protocols. Both shop management and loading personnel actively participated in a comprehensive inspection. During this process, Moore Brothers' experts provided invaluable insights and reinforced best practices in essential areas such as optimal load distribution, secure load restraints, equipment inspection, emergency preparedness, collaborative communication, and adherence to legislative requirements.
Loading operations play a crucial role in the safe transportation of structural steel from our fabrication shop to various destinations. Proper loading practices protect the steel we’re sending to site, and more importantly, the safety of employees, contractors, and community members.
Special thanks to Sue Moore and Todd Moore for the collaboration!
