Humanitarian impact in Syria
On 27 November 2024, the opposition group Hayat Tahrir Al Sham launched an operation against the Government of Syria, leading to the collapse of Bashar al-Assad's regime on 8 December 2024. The escalation of conflict increased concerns over higher food needs, reduced access to healthcare due to closure of hospitals, and limited access to assistance after several humanitarian organisations suspended their operations. Despite being published on 6 December, this analysis remains relevant to understanding the current humanitarian impact.

In 2023, Ecuador became the country with the most homicides per capita in Latin America. Escalating insecurity and violence have surged dramatically since the COVID-19 pandemic, driven primarily by the growing influence of transnational criminal organisations and gangs, particularly in coastal provinces of Guayas and Esmeraldas. We analyse the impacts of violence on child protection, education, and health in these two provinces.
Following the onset of Ukrainian forces’ crossborder incursion into Russia’s Kursk oblast in August 2024, Russian attacks in Sumska oblast have increased, leading to a deterioration in the oblast’s overall context. Heightened insecurity has heavily constrained people’s access to essential services. NGOs have faced additional access and operational constraints. In the next six months, the situation in Sumska is expected to deteriorate further.
