Working in Technology: Explore UX & Design Roles
By Liz Wilkinson SFHEA , Senior Careers Consultant, University of London Careers Service
Do you have strong views about what websites look like? Do you often find yourself critiquing an app's functionality or usability? Does the idea of creating "customer delight" resonate with you?
Answering “yes” to these questions? Then use our University of London Careers Service events and resources to explore technology roles in User Experience (UX) and Design – an evolving field that blends creativity with technology to enhance user satisfaction by improving the usability, accessibility, and positive experiences provided by online services and products. Here are three typical roles in UX:
1️⃣UX Researchers
UX Researchers play a crucial role in understanding user needs and behaviours through methods like interviews, surveys, and usability testing. They gather insights that inform the design process, ensuring that products meet user expectations and solve real problems.
2️⃣UX Designers
UX Designers are responsible for creating the overall look and feel of a product. They develop wireframes, prototypes, and user flows to visualise the user journey. Their work involves a deep understanding of design principles, user psychology, and interaction design.
3️⃣Interaction Designers
They specialise in defining how users interact with a product and create intuitive and engaging experiences by designing the behaviour of interactive elements and ensuring smooth transitions between different states of the product.
