ARE YOU CONFUSED?
Have you ever felt frustrated? Have you ever felt unsure about which direction to go? Is there a problem you are dealing with that seems to have no answers? Do you feel like there is no way out? Are you perplexed? Anxious? Worried? Are your emotions all over the place? Do you feel like quitting?
Again, I have good news!!!! You are not alone. All over the world, people like you go through similar issues on a daily basis!!!
Over the past 25 years of my life, I have studied the issue of how people deal with the challenges of life and I have developed a keen interest in what makes some people mentally strong. One thing is clear, the problems we face trigger our emotions and we must learn to deal with our emotions “INTELLIGENTLY.” For example, I always think about the Nelson Mandelas of this world and how they go through so much and still bounce back. Imagine what type of emotions he experienced in prison for 27 years!!!! Amazing!!!!
To deal with our emotions intelligently in this context, we must be RESILIENT. Resilience is one of my favorite topics. It is a part of the the subject of “EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE and I love it. I am always fascinated by people who demonstrate mental strength and agility.
Let me tell you ONE thing you must do to deal with your confusion or all the issues enumerated above. Here it is:
You must live your life based on a set of CORE VALUES that serve as a COMPASS in your life. A core value is a principle that guides your thinking and consequently helps you make decisions. Your emotions are a function of the way you think. You cannot feel angry without thinking an angry thought. Hence, your core values can help regulate your thinking and therefore, bring emotional stability in your life. Applying core values is not easy because the things we face sometimes seem to be so serious that we throw the values by the wayside. However, that’s a wrong approach. You must be willing to DIE for your core values. This is non-negotiable if you are going to prevail over the things you are currently “passing through.”
What are the principles that you want to live by? These principles must be the MOST important thing in your life. So important that your thoughts and emotions must become SUBORDINATE to them.
Please permit me to share my personal CORE VALUES. I hope you do not mind. I have 7 of them and just this morning, I had to FORCEFULLY apply one of them by telling my thoughts and emotions to “get out.” Here they are:
1. Godliness & Family
2. Love For My Neighbor
3. Contentment & Gratitude
4. Hard work & World-Class Excellence
5. Resilience & Learning From Failure
6. Humility & Patience
7. Integrity
Do you have core values? Have you written them down formally?
Mad means:
M. Motivated Beyond Measure
A. Angry At Mediocrity & Moral Decay
D: Deep Desire To Do Great Things
