Last week, I attended one of the most impactful events of the year: The Say Gap. (The name says it all.) The Say Gap is an event that’s all about empowering women by addressing a simple reality: Many of us need that extra boost to make our voices truly heard. 👑 This year, it was a two-day event filled with real talk on diversity and powerful workshops. I could only attend the second day, but wow, was it focused and inspiring. The agenda for the second day? Public speaking. How do you tell a story that sticks? How do you ensure your point lands? How do you keep people’s attention without getting sidetracked? These are skills we all need. Let’s be real! Who hasn’t been in a meeting, shared an idea, only to see someone else recognized for it moments later? It’s time to close that gap. Thank you Caroline Hill and Cosmonauts for such a brilliant event! Thank you Sarah Lloyd Hughes for being such an empowering coach!

A heartfelt thank you to Caroline Hill, for her incredible passion and vision in creating The Say Gap. Her commitment to driving meaningful change in law made this event a powerful gathering of like-minded individuals, sparking conversations that will undoubtedly drive our industry forward. I’m grateful for the chance to reconnect with old friends, make meaningful and long lasting new connections, and immerse myself in sessions that challenged and inspired. Typically I lead and facilitate, so it was a rare treat to be on the receiving end of this. Here are just a few highlights as we only have so much word count! : - Inclusivity and Psychological Safety with Claire Sanders: Claire’s words on inclusivity as "being invited to the party and then asked to dance" stayed with me. Her insights on the need for psychological safety in high-performing teams I care deeply about and how we can create spaces for others to contribute and shine. - Fireside Chat with Trevor D Sterling: Trevor’s message to “be the ladder” resonated deeply with me. The idea of lifting others as we progress embodies the essence of social mobility and inclusivity – creating pathways for others to rise is a purpose I hold close to my heart. - Accessibility and Inclusion in Tech by Feargus MacDaeid: Feargus’s journey in designing technology for true accessibility reminded us that inclusion is beneficial for everyone. Accessibility, whether through neuro-inclusive practices or physical accommodations, serves all. Think of a workplace ramp, supporting both those with mobility needs and deliveries! - Interactive Panel on Diversity Challenges: Led by Sharon Thomas, Feargus M., Janice D., and Jeffrey Shapiro, this discussion brought real-world perspectives on breaking down barriers to equity in law. It highlighted how critical diverse perspectives are in creating resilient, sustainable teams. - Innovative Problem Solving with Manu Kanwar and Denis Potemkin: Manu and Denis took us through an interactive session on driving diversity and collaboration in law. This experience was a reminder of how invigorating it is to be a participant, taking in new ideas and perspectives, and reflecting on approaches that can create lasting change. - Harnessing the Power of Storytelling with Sarah Lloyd Hughes: Sarah guided us in exploring the importance of our narrative in amplifying our voice and impact. Her session reinforced how stories aren’t just personal reflections – they’re a bridge to connect, influence, and inspire meaningful action. The conference was a testament to the courage, honesty, and collaboration it takes to create real change in our profession and beyond.
