As we welcome 2025, we reflect on stories of resilience like that of Lidiia Ivanivna, a former teacher from a village in #Ukraine. After her home was destroyed during the invasion, Lidiia and her family found refuge in their garden. 🌿 With support from the UNDP Ukraine, she is clearing debris and starting anew. Lidiia finds joy in her blooming garden and continues to teach online to her students, who are now around the globe. Reflecting on 2024, we are committed to an equitable future.

More than 30 young people from across the Western Balkans came together in Belgrade to #ExchangeIdeas, tackle shared challenges, and inspire each other on their journey toward fostering peace and collaboration in the region. Through interactive workshops, inspiring discussions, and even a powerful theatre performance, participants explored complex themes of regional reconciliation, shared history, and community engagement. One key takeaway echoed by all: Peace and trust begin with mutual respect and understanding. 🗨️ “We can build bridges between our communities because, at the end of the day, we are all human. By working together, we can achieve great things,” said Noli O., a young activist from Debar. 🗨️ As Nedžla Kurtćehajić noted, young people from the region “hold the potential to transform the current 'negative' peace into a truly 'positive' one, fostering a more supportive and peaceful society." During the event, participants also: ✔️Learned regional history and facts by historian Marijana Toma and researcher Nemanja Stjepanović ✔️Practiced creating impactful social media campaigns with Nina Skočak ✔️Discussed the importance of fact-checking and media literacy with Milijana Rogač from Istinomer

You may know, that the Portfolio Approach is at the heart of the Mayors for Economic Growth (M4EG) Facility. But what is a Portfolio Journey, and how does it help cities become future-ready? 👉 It's a collaborative process where local governments, communities, and stakeholders co-create tailored development strategies and experiment with solutions unique to each city's context. 🔋 For example, the city of Ceadîr-Lunga 🇲🇩 seeks ways to move from an import-dependent and extractive energy model to one that is independent, affordable, and sustainable – with citizens at its core. At the heart of this transformation, the municipality placed the Portfolio Journey. 📚 Discover this and other inspiring transformations in the “Urban Development Beyond Growth” report, co-created by Demos Helsinki, UNDP, and the EU-funded #M4EG: https://lnkd.in/dUZMMyEu #UNDPEUpartnership
