Eyes Open to Thrombosis
About us
Recognized on 13 October, World Thrombosis Day (WTD) focuses attention on the often overlooked and misunderstood condition of thrombosis. With thousands of educational events in countries around the world, WTD and its partners place a global spotlight on thrombosis as an urgent and growing health problem. Open your eyes to thrombosis. WTD seeks to increase global awareness of thrombosis, including its causes, risk factors, signs/symptoms and evidence-based prevention and treatment. Ultimately, we strive to reduce death and disability caused by the condition. Our mission supports the World Health Assembly's global target of reducing premature deaths by non-communicable disease by 25 percent by 2025, as well as the World Health Organization’s Thirteenth General Programme of Work 2019–2023, the Montevideo Roadmap 2018-2030 on NCDs and the Political Declaration of UNGA' Third High-level Meeting on NCDs.

It is possible for approximately 20% of individuals diagnosed with cancer to encounter venous thromboembolism (VTE). It is vital not to overlook the potential dangers and to remain well-informed, proactive, and consult with your healthcare provider regarding preventative measures. #WTDay25

I've been feeling slightly off the past few days. Slowed down on my posts. The theme for Day 8 was storytelling. Here's a chance to share what's kept me quiet for 3 days. Being a #thrombosispatient has its challenges. Some days you are energetic, while others you zone out. My supportive community reminds me to rest on my challenging days. That it's okay to feel low and worked up with my condition. No is never an option. Thrombosis is a silent illness, a silent killer unknown to many, especially in Africa. This is a blood clotting condition. As a Kenyan Advocate and Ambassador for WorldThrombosisDay, I am happy to spread awareness of thrombosis. Being a patient for seven years sets me apart, as I get to share my firsthand experiences, challenges, needs, and solutions with my online and physical communities. I am a #bloodclotsurvivor who birthed a premature baby in 2021. I'm a venous thromboembolism patient (VTE), this is a combination of blood clots in my right ankle and the lungs. Barbara Adams Krolak thank you for your work at the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). Your emails are motivating.
