Ride Joburg 2024: Where Dreams Meet Determination This past weekend, hundreds of cyclists became #DreamRiders, transforming their passion for cycling into a powerful force for good. Together, we rode not just for the thrill but for a purpose: to bring hope, joy, and light to children facing life-threatening illnesses. We couldn’t have done it without our incredible partners: Lancet Laboratories – ensuring our riders felt strong and healthy with complimentary glucose and cholesterol tests and sponsoring our hospitality tent. Yesterday we launched a new Dream Room at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, with the generous support of Emperors Palace Hotel Casino Convention and Entertainment Resort! Dream Rooms are more than just rooms, they are sanctuaries of joy, designed to offer children in public hospitals a safe and happy space within the pediatric wards. Manned by graduate interns trained in Early Childhood Development, these spaces are filled with interactive activities that entertain, educate, and uplift young spirits. Thanks to partners like Vumatel, some Dream Rooms even feature Virtual Reality (VR) experiences. These innovative tools provide much-needed distraction for children undergoing medical procedures, easing their anxiety and bringing a little magic to challenging moments. They also allow children to escape the confines of the hospital and embark on extraordinary adventures such as swimming alongside dolphins in the deep blue sea, soaring through the clouds like a pilot, or even exploring the wonders of outer space. With VR, the possibilities are endless, and for a moment, these children are free to dream beyond their reality. This launch is another step in our mission to ensure that every child has access to moments of joy and relief, even in the toughest times. Today is a very special day for 10-year-old Isabella from East London. Her dream of meeting the #Springboks is about to come true. Living with cancer, rugby has always been her source of strength. Today, she’ll step onto the field in Nelspruit, holding Siya Kolisi’s hand to sing the national anthem before the game against Argentina.
