The romantic drama We Live in Time featuring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield hits cinemas today (Wednesday, January 1), promising to be a heart-wrenching tale as the characters Almut and Tobias navigate life's challenges.
Florence Pugh turned heads when she appeared with a shaved head at last year's Met Gala in May, a dramatic change she underwent for her role in "We Live in Time," where her character faces cancer, as revealed by the film's trailer.
In anticipation of the movie's release, Pugh shared her feelings about her drastic haircut and the profound reaction it evoked with British Vogue: "In many religions, hair is the most precious thing on the body it's where you store your memories and your dreams and your history. (Shaving) it was really bizarre."
She continued: "My head was so sensitive and so many people were trying to touch it and it was so alive. My body went into a bit of trauma from it. I was cold all the time."
A key moment in the film involves Andrew Garfield's character, Tobias, shaving Almut's hair, a task he found daunting: "What if I somehow destroyed the head of one of the best actors of her generation?"
MyLondon reports how Garfield reflected on the experience: "It was terrifying, but ultimately it was a very beautiful, intimate scene to shoot and thank God she has such a nicely shaped melon."
Florence shared that taking on the role was perfectly timed in her life, and altering her hairstyle enabled her to leave behind previous conceptions about her life at that point.
She expressed a desire to step away from the glitzy Hollywood persona to truly embody her character's experiences.
Elaborating further, she said: "I was going through so many (aesthetic) iterations when I was also going through life decisions.
"I was like, 'Cool, well I don't look like me. I'm changed. I'm changing.' Looking back on that summer, I was growing into a new thing."
Now, over eighteen months since the actress bid farewell to her longer locks, Florence's hair has regrown, showcased by a new bob cut during recent promotional events for the film.
