As summer approaches and the weather gets warmer it is the perfect chance for you and your family to get out and about. There are plenty of options available such as a long hike or a swim at a lido but cycling represents the perfect way to enjoy the beautiful countryside in Surrey.

Looking to capitalise on its countryside location, one Surrey pub has devised a seven-mile ride that involves a stop halfway through to enjoy the pub grub. The White Bear, located in Warlingham, encourages customers to cycle to them with facilities to secure bikes in their front and back car parks.

The journey to the pub starts at the Botley Hill Farmhouse car park where a left-hand turn onto a cycle path will take you toward Beech Farm Road. Keep going until you reach Ledgers Road where another left takes you down a path (just be ready to give way to horses using the route too.)

A right onto Chelsham Common Road leads to Church Lane where you’ll travel on until you get to a metal gate on your left 5 minutes later. Go through here into Holt Wood until you reach Scotshall Lane and Farleigh Court Road where you’ll eventually see a small blue cycle sign after taking a right.

After a five-minute cycle through the woods, you’ll tackle two steep hills, one down and one up, which will lead you to a metal gate. Go through here and onto the path which will lead you to Fairchildes Road where the pub is located 200 yards down the road.

From here you can pop inside to enjoy classic pub grub like fish and chips, apple and blueberry crumble, and a wide range of roast options on Sunday including an appetising-looking roast beef burger bap with chips. In the summer the pub has a burger shack where you can order drinks and light bites to take away, or sit and enjoy in their back garden.

Hopefully refuelled and ready to tackle the second half of the journey, the return route is slightly different but you’ll start by cycling where you came from until Scottshall Lane. Here you’ll take a left until you arrive at a junction where you’ll want to travel on Church Road for 10 minutes.

On your left will be Ledgers Road which will take you to a small path called Wash Pond Lane which leads onto Beech Farm Road. A right here will mean a 15-minute cycle to Croydon Road with a cycle path on your left taking you back towards Botley Hill Farmhouse where you started.
