📢 The Future Medicines Institute (FMI), a £55million collaborative initiative, has been launched in Northern Ireland. With backing from industry leaders and academic expertise from Queen's University Belfast and Ulster University, FMI is poised to revolutionise drug development and patient care.   🔬 FMI will drive innovation in diagnostics and therapeutics, building on Northern Ireland’s strong reputation in Life and Health Sciences. Last week, our IMEA team joined the overseas colleagues in Belfast for the launch of our new Business Strategy, 'Our Future in Focus' and the Annual Staff Conference 2024. The ambitious strategy will shape our future and drive our collective success. It will also drive Northern Ireland's economic growth over the next 3 years, delivering a globally competitive, regionally balanced, productive, sustainable, and prosperous economy. The 2-day event provided comprehensive insights into key topics. We heard from Department for the Economy NI Minister Conor Murphy, who outlined his strategic priorities for the region's economy and the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Additionally, we shared our story with over 50 companies and investors, demonstrating how collaboration with us can significantly impact businesses in Northern Ireland. The day concluded with an inspiring session led by Gavin Oattes 🚀, who stressed the importance of our mission at Invest Northern Ireland and reminded us to "plant trees we will never see." During the event, our team seized the valuable opportunity to connect and network with companies from Northern Ireland across various sectors. In an engaging sector-focused Materials Handling workshop, we shared compelling insights into the mining and quarrying sector within the IMEA region with the leading materials handling companies; we held their interest for potential business growth by emphasising the emerging opportunities and upcoming tradeshows designed to boost exports. A great turnout on a beautifully cold morning at South West College - Dungannon for Invest NI's Materials Handling workshop. Colleagues from across Invest Northern Ireland, including from Western Regional Office, Skills & Competiveness, R&D, Trade and Materials Handling Sector team are onsite to advise client companies on the range of supports available to businesses of all sizes in the sector. And with exports per employee within Materials Handling the highest of any NI sector, representatives from Invest NI's international offices are out in force, highlighting new opportunities in USA, Canada, LATAC, Germany, Nordics, China, South Africa and the Middle East. An informative and timely session, particularly with the publication this week of Invest NI's Business Strategy which focuses on the needs to improve productivity, drive innovation, and deliver regionally-balanced support for businesses across Northern Ireland. Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting 6 buyers from the IMEA region at the Northern Ireland Food & Drink Showcase, held at the Clandeboye Lodge Hotel. These buyers participated in an inward visit that included representatives from around the globe. During the event, they had the opportunity to meet with over 80 Northern Ireland food and drink companies, showcasing the Pure, Natural and Quality of our industry. Over 4 days, the buyers enjoyed a gourmet journey, complete with exclusive tours of Northern Ireland's finest food and drink producers. It was a fantastic week filled with discovery, collaboration, and a celebration of Northern Ireland's rich food and drink heritage!
