EU Agrifood Policy Update! 🌱 The European Commission's vision highlights: 🌟 Leading in food innovation and safety 🌍 Aligning with climate and nature Cultivated foods are key to future-proofing our system. Policies and incentives will be crucial.
🌍📜 A big day for EU agrifood policy! With the publication of the EU Vision for Agriculture and Food, the European Commission has outlined its perspective on the future of Europe's food and farming systems. While the debate on the best path forward continues, it’s great to see some key elements being recognised, including: 💡The importance of the EU remaining a world leader in food innovation and food safety 🍝The need for further discussion on how innovations can align with and complement European food culture and identity 🌱The importance of future-proofing the agri-food sector so it can work hand in hand with nature and climate objectives 💪The need to reduce strategic dependencies and strengthen European food security 🚜The importance of public investment to de-risk the sustainability transition and support those on the ground Plant-based, fermentation-made and cultivated meat, fish, egg and dairy represent one important part of a more future-proof European agrifood system. These foods could help diversify Europe’s protein supply, reduce import dependence and create more space for sustainable farming practices. To fully realise these benefits, the right policy frameworks and incentives will be key. A lot will depend on how these ideas translate into concrete actions.
