Businesses with reliable access to electricity have a significant competitive advantage over those that experience frequent power outages. Consider the case of Patrick Ratovohasina, a welder and cart maker in Mahasolo, #Madagascar for example. Unreliable power not only limits the tools and equipment he can use in his shop, but also restricts the quality and quantity of his output due to the limitations of his diesel-powered generator. As a result, he is in a vicious cycle of low productivity, low profitability, and decreased competitiveness, which hinders his business growth opportunities. This is precisely the challenge that we, in collaboration with our partners, are dedicated to address to support businesses like Patrick’s to reduce costs on backup systems, increase productivity and income and ultimately lift many people out of poverty, enabling them to lead quality lives. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels Damilola Ogunbiyi , Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund Anita Otubu, Abdulmumini Yakubu, José Otárola-Silesky, Inès Rachel Dushime, Francesco Bisleti, Harry Gibson, Onyeka Okoye, Getty Kasole

Business ideas abound in many communities across #Africa. However, what often cuts those dreams short or renders them invalid, is the unavailability of reliable power. But with the provision of clean, reliable energy through for instance the deployment of clean energy mini-grids, many people's dreams are valid. Mrs Victorie, a trader in Mahasolo, #Madagascar has a dream to expand her business and has already visualized where everything in her ice-cream stand will go and is now awaiting the commissioning of the 148 kW PV plant with a lithium-ion battery containerized system project by the UEF in partnership Africa GreenTec, for her dream of becoming a renowned ice cream vendor to become a reality. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels Damilola Ogunbiyi, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund Anita Otubu, Abdulmumini Yakubu, José Otárola-Silesky, Inès Rachel Dushime, Francesco Bisleti, Harry Gibson, Onyeka Okoye, Getty Kasole

When it comes to energy, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (#DRC) is a country of extremes. On one hand, the country has massive hydropower potential at the great Inga Dam, with a staggering capacity of 44,000 MW. To put this into perspective, this capacity is enough to power not only DRC, but also 40 percent of Africa! However, only 19 percent of the population in the largest country in Sub-Saharan Africa, has access to electricity. According to International Energy Agency (IEA), in 2021, the country generated 13, 190 GWh from hydropower. To put this in context, one GW is enough to power approximately 1.2 million households for a year. This was against a consumption of 0.14MWh per capita during the same period. In simple terms it means that on average, each person consumed 140 kWh of electricity in a year, which translates to about 0.38 kWh per day. For a country with a population of about 95.8 million people at the time, this is a very low level of electricity usage compared to, for example, the USA whose average electricity consumption per capita is about 12,000 kWh. These stark differences point to the need to even out the odds in order to spur socio-economic development. It is the reason we are working with several developers in that country to accelerate access for the millions of unserved and underserved communities. Keep it here for updates on our developments from this endowed country. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels Damilola Ogunbiyi , Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund Anita Otubu, Abdulmumini Yakubu, José Otárola-Silesky, Inès Rachel Dushime, Francesco Bisleti, Harry Gibson, Onyeka Okoye, Getty Kasole

There are numerous reasons why electricity is a powerful force but one of the most incredibly important qualities is its capacity to directly and instantly impact beneficiaries. Not only is it an invisible force that lights up an area or household at the flip of a switch but it also instantly transforms lives positively, a fact that Kumba Kasse-Gborie from Power Leone attests to. She has seen firsthand how life in a beneficiary community appears to change overnight. From the purchase of basic home appliances such as fridges to the complex ones like medical equipment and setting up of computer labs in schools, the entry of electricity into an area brings with it essential services to diverse sectors that contribute to the rapid socio-economic development of the community in question. This is why we will continue working to accelerate energy access. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels Damilola Ogunbiyi , Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund Anita Otubu, Abdulmumini Yakubu, José Otárola-Silesky, Inès Rachel Dushime, Francesco Bisleti, Harry Gibson, Onyeka Okoye, Getty Kasole Energicity

Energy access is a fundamental human right given its critical role in various facets of human development. It is a key socioeconomic driver that when present, promotes the well-being of a community or society. It is therefore encouraging to witness the global acknowledgement and appreciation of the importance of electricity, particularly in developing countries where access is nonexistent or unreliable. According to Ejike Ndumbuizu from #Nigeria, their reliance on unreliable and costly diesel-run power systems, drove them to look into alternative energy sources. And there was no better option than the abundant sunshine! 🌟 ☀ He says they are working with #DarwayCoast, a UEF grantee, to harness the solar power potential in Nigeria which is estimated to be 427,000 MW. Upon commissioning of the project, Ejike is looking forward to enjoying the benefits that come from using clean, stable and less costly power at the market. #FinancingEnergyProsperity #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #SustainableEnergy #minigrid #offgridsolar #energyaccess #SustainableDevelopment #SolarPower #SolarEnergy #SolarPanels Damilola Ogunbiyi , Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, Power Africa, Shell Foundation, The Carbon Trust, Good Energies Foundation, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Africa Minigrid Developers Association (AMDA), Bezos Earth Fund Anita Otubu, Abdulmumini Yakubu, José Otárola-Silesky, Inès Rachel Dushime, Francesco Bisleti, Harry Gibson, Onyeka Okoye, Getty Kasole
